i know a few things that i need like a 350 engine and i was gunna find one with a 4 bolt main so i know it would hold everything, 400 crank, 400 heads and rods. but what else do i need to get it done. i know i need to get it bored over but how far? could i use the intake off my 350 now? does jegs or summit or anyplace else sell a good kit to build a stroker?

350 bored 30 over with 400 crank u can use any sbc head better to have some better flowing heads vortec darts aluminum if you have the $$$ yes jegs and summit sell kits to build them u have to have the block clearance for the extended stroke with the 400 crank

30 over, gotta have the block cut out for the longer stroke, 400 crank, that's the simple recipe for a 383....everything else is up to your pocket and prefrence, (heads, intake, valvetrain) my recommendation if your trying to get the most out of your money is a set of vortec heads, best flowing stock 350 head (no the camelbacks aren't better)...and you can get a carbarated intake for it...I've had two engines with that head set up and they rock

save your money and build an LS series motor. hot rod magazine just built one:
Funny thing is they thought it was a 5.3 until after they got it off the dyno, then they pulled the pan and ran the crank number and realized it was a 4.8...... They wanted to see how much HP a stock LS motor could take, they did over 60 pulls(with most being over 1000hp) and pumped 26lbs of boost into the motor. The only other things they did was have the heads ported, installed a FAST intake with 75lb/hr injectors and installed a cam, but the short block was all stock.......And just think NO Forged Internals!!!!!!

i have put a lot into mine lately and it will be done this weekend but heads gonna be you kicker but definatly worth it

hot rod heep

u can not just drop the 400 crank in the  350   the mains have to be terned down to the 350  size    it is cheeper  to by a scatt from like jags or some were like that    it will be  a 383  crank

LS motors kick ass. my next motor will be a 6.0L stroked .100, bored .060, with 5.3 heads, .550ish lift cam, and carbed!

just build a 355 cheeper im not to inpressed with my stroker motor ive had 355 that run just as good

Other than clearancing the block how is it cheaper?  I was never a fan of strokers either till I actually got my last one done that thing ran like a monster.  If your after rpms then definitely go 355

Cheaper because all you do is bore the block and change the pistons...ur crank and everything is the same

I didnt use the stock crank or rods in mine! got more money in my 355 than my 383 short block!!!  not every 355 is just a piston change... if you want to make power you have to spend alot of money!!

Well yea but now ur confusing the guy...a 355 is simply a 30 over 350...not gunna make uch more power than a 350...obviously you can do whatever you want with your own 355. Leave the cast or put a high $ forged its all up to what you want and what you can afford

well cant i get more RPM's out of the stroker than i can the 355?

MR NASTY

Imo the 355 love the rpms. And yes the 383 will rev also the longer stroke is harder on the internals. Picture a weight on a 1' string swinging. Now put it on a 10'. Its gonna take more force to change its direction. And the reason I say it won't be any cheaper is if your buying crank rods and pistons anyway there is little to no difference in the prices.
