i have the old stlyle drum brake dana 44 front axle with the ball and socket enclosed steering knuckles. are these danas worth putting money into or should i just scrap it and put in a newer style dana or gm 10 bolt ... any ideas?

id beat on it till it breaks, then step up to a newer dana or corporate axle. those 44hd's arent a bad axle, i dont think there are too many parts out there for them

What is it out of????...........Chevy??? or Ford?????

Its not worth putting money into, because of limited parts for them,

BUT you already have it in your truck...........and itseems to be doing okay for you as of now??............I'd run it till something breaks......then save any internal parts you can, axle shafts, ect....and swap in another open knuckle disk brake HD44.

it's a ford drum brake 8 lug. one of the lock out hubs broke on it and i was told about the limited availability of parts for it. i'm just trying to figure out if i want to spend the money on the new hubs or just put the money towards something better for the truck.

What kind of ( lockout hub) parts are broken on it?   Does your axle take the BIG external bolt on spicer hubs with red plastic knobs?

thank you all for the helpful input, and it looks like i need to start shopping around for a new front diff. i started taking it apart and abunch of water and chunks of metal started falling out of the hubs, i figure that is not a good sign.lol
