I dont have them but have looked into them.  There are a lot of cheap ones and expensive ones out there most on eBay, You get what you pay for with them.
The good ones are made by GE, Silvania, Hella, Bosch and Phillips.  They all come with 12-24 month warranties (at least the ones I have looked at)

In most cases, technically, the headlight retrofit HID kits are illegal. but its not enforced. are you trying to upgrade your headlights or add off road lights??? I have recently done alot of research on HIDs i added some cheapo HIDs as rear work lights for when i plow

upgrade headlights have been told they work better and they look sweet

It depends on the kit, the kit I got for my jeep hooked right up to plug and ran into the box and then to lights. I love the brightness of them and its like night and day.  I have since then switched back to halogens since I have found hid's dont like water at all and if you plan on mudding with em, plan on replacing them. Its cheaper for me to run seald beam hal's cuz they work even under water

The Big issues with HIDs in your stock housings are:

1: The stock reflector is not designed to properly direct the light, HIDs need certain style reflectors to be really effective
and
2: The Cutoff line. HID housings (including the retrofit headlight kits) have a built in cutoff line, so that you arent blinding other drivers. thats kind of where the legal issues are... If you are headed towards a cop and he cant see s#!t cause of your headlights, he will stop you. more than likely just a fix it ticket, but ya never know. and you will get oncomers flashing ya their high beams thinking yours are on....

That being said, HIDs are awesome, the DDM tuning kits are pretty reputable. I bought my HID kit on eBay for like 33 bucks shipped, and havent had a complaint about them yet!

As far as wiring, you will probably need an HID relay harness kit, depending on the vehicle. some newer vehicles with fancy bulbs might not need them. My kit was H3 base bulbs, and the ballasts which just needed a power and a ground.

food for thought: HIDs do NOT like to be turned on and off. they not only have an initial warm up time, but they typically need to fully cool down before turning them on again, otherwise you will eat up bulbs.

i bought mine from  www.ddmtuning.com  i got them when they wre on sale so my highs and lows only cost me 74ish  shipped.   now it would be right around 100.   but  i love them on my truck.  had them for over a year now and never had any issues.    i run them in my lows and highs since i have the wiring when i turn my highs on my lows stay on  and i also run them in my fog lights.

the kit i got  is simple to install also.  your factory wiring plugs into the ballast and there are 2 wires that come out of the ballast for the bulb.  all you gotta do is mount the ballast  somewhere and your good to go

iv had hids in all my cars, trucks, bikes and if ur looking for performance i "wouldn't" go over 6000k the deeper the blue the more p00 p00 the bulbs are/ sight seeing at night.. iv had replaced ballasts in quite a few of my trucks/cars/bikes which is commen problem for HIDs.. to be honest buddy ur better off not buying them.. just get a high end bulb b/c then you wont have to wait for the hids to warm up in the winter (2-5 seconds) sometimes they take a few once u change them from low to brights. but overall there cool to look at but dont get anythign higher then 6000k. im gonna sell mine and go to a regular bulb, but if you want ill sell you my kit, iv had for 5 or 6 months 10000k low beams and fog lights the very deep blue, off of my 02 2500hd i bought for $200+  and there the top brand bought straight from Xenon Manufacture.  ill give u the kit for $70.. but either way keep your standard oem bulbs with you just incase u have a problem while on the road.

Just put them in for one of the two high or low and keep your stock ones just in case
