whats the advantages and disadvantages

they're good for extreme driveshaft angles   ( tall lift kits )

you can run a 2wd auto trans or manual trans.............possibly easier and cheaper to find.

only bad thing I'd say is that you have one more driveshaft (between trans & T-case)........which could be a weak link

The intermediate shaft is actually pretty strong, most of your torque comes after the t case, use quality u joints and loop style yokes, and try to mount the case as strait as possible in line with the trans for less possibility of binding or vibrations

I put one in my truck because of driveline angles... The front is better but the rear got a little worse, but I'm running a short bed truck

I don't think it makes a difference divorced/non as far as strength.  Less chance of splitting the transmission case tho since they are not connected.
