I've got a 90 chevy van T.B.I and the injectores ain't shooting out fuel. I've changed the distributer with a new one thinking that the pick up coil wasn't good still no fuel. This is driving me crazy. Any ideas would be helpfull. I'm thinking T.0P.S. or the fcomputer took a p00 but I'm stumped

t.p.s.   c.t.s.  could be a number of things, are you getting good fuel pressure to the tbi unit? make sure fuel pump is coming if not check fuses and relays for it.  and also check to see if you have any codes.

Got flow of gas at the line that comes into the back of the T.B.I. checked both fuses in fuse box under the dash both good.gona try the T.P.S. tommorow maybee its stuck in the wide open position. Can't figure out what other sensor would not let the injectors fire. Any other suggestions would be helpfull. And when I get it fixed ill be posting what it is

I don't have a scaner and don't know how to do the codes with a paper clip

put key in on position, jump terminal A & B with paperclip, count flashes of check engine light, the first set of flashes will be longer then the second.

example: 2 long flashes followed by 3 fast flashes = code 23

the first code you get should be 12, which means normal computer functions, followed by the actual code, then another, and another if there is something wrong, at the end of the sequence it will flash code 12 again

hope that helps :)

Hey bill is this on your black 89?  I would check to make sure the connectors on the injectors are making good contact. These are notorious for burning up.  I had to replace both of mine.  Took me a fee trucks in the junk yard to find a decent set.  If yours are f'ed up I may have another good set laying around.  Let me know.  I have another throttle body sittin here also if you wanna try and rule the injectors out all together.
Hopefully Hell has a Mudpit!!!

No its not on my black 89 its on a buddys van. Somebody told me it might be the temp sensore so I think I got another one of those but if not they are only like 10 bucks so I'm going to try that today and go threw the wires to se if any are broke or coroded. If that don't get it id be willing to try the injectores or the whole throttle body you have just to rule them out before I have to look for a computer.

theres fuses for both injectors... instrument panel  marked INJ A and INJ B

check for power at the injectors, one should have 12v when ignition is on, other should show ground while cranking/running.  should be able to hear them open and close while cranking....  (clicking noise)

bad temp sensor wont cause it to not run, it'll still run but it'll be super rich and run rough. does it run off starter fluid?

72 Bogger

Yes it runs when I shoot it. Went and got a set of noid lights and I'm not getting and pulse at my injecters. And the temp sensor didn't do anything. I've looked at the wires and they look good. I think I'm going to find the computer and see if I can find one to try

supposed to come on when you first turn the key on as a "system check" like all the other lights.

also check the ground wires, to computer, there is 2 of them bolted to the trans bellhousing, where the trans dip stick bolts on, there should be a black wire and a black wire with white stripe. Ive run into the same problem where I got spark, and It fired with ether but injectors wouldnt fire no matter what. untill I finally traced it to those two wires

Well either the light is burned out or the computer is bad cause when I did the paper clip I got nothing

check all the grounds, those 2 wires I was talking about will do that, also check the chassis to body ground as jc said

Those two wires look good on the bellhousing and the ground that goes from there to the body looks good. But I'm going to go through a lot of the wires tomorrow and see what happens.I nned to find somebody with a computer that they know works and swap it to see if that's the problem.

check and make sure there is a ground that goes to the thermostat housing. not sure what it is, might be worth a check

72 Bogger

I've checked all the grounds I can find they all look good. I'm going to recheck them again. I'm starting to think its the computer. I need to either find one that I can borrow to swap out and check or a scanner.does anybody got either one I can borrow for a day???
