get into an apprenticeship program ie:pipe fitters,carpenters,insulators,sheet metal workers,iron workers,laborers and so on
they are all union with great bennies and usually start out around 13 per hr. or more and go up as you progress and turn out as a journeyman generally around 28.00-36.00 per hour!
now is usually the time to join i think most programs start around june i know sheet metal workers do!

just look up union jobs in the area looking for entry level laborers.
