anaerobic gasket sealer

What is the difference between this and regular RTV gasket sealer.   And does anyone know where I can buy some other than permatex website, like at auto parts stores? Auto zone doesn't carry it and I haven't checked anywhere else yet.

Im rebuilding my supercharger and it says to use anaerobic gasket maker, so just wondering if I can just use some regular RTV permatex?

From what I read on permatex website, the descriptions are pretty much the same between the 2.  

any help would be much obliged, thanks guys

im not looking for rtv, I have tons of it laying around here, and can get it anywhere. Im looking for anaerobic gasket maker.

and I'm wondering what the difference is between it and rtv.  And could I just use rtv to seal the supercharger?

yeah I know I can get it at the dealers, but they want way to much, I can order it from permatex for half the price, but don't really want to wait for it to get here.

I tried to get my dad to snag me some at work but he said that its in big containers and the robot squirts it out..... I told him to get a zip lock bag and hold it under it and just follow the robot around the engine block    he didn't go for it

Anaerobic I believe means that it dries in the absonce of air I don't see any reason Rtv wouldn't work it justmay take a little longer to dry. I could be wrong but I don't think so.

thats what I was thinking, and if applied correctly I wouldnt have to worry about the extra oozing out and getting chewed up in the gears and what not.  Im thinking Ill try it with rtv as I got tons of rtv copper laying around, and see what it does, I only could find a few forums on this, and some say rtv is fine on a supercharger and others say use the anaerobic because that is what is recommended and haven't tried anything else. I mean worse comes to worse Ill have to change the oil on it again lol   I mean even if the rtv does ooze out in there and some breaks off, it never hardens, its still pliable so I dont think it would hurt the gears, theres no pump or anything in there either

Maybe it has some different chemicals or something who knows i know ive heard you shouldnt use rtv on a carb but for that i can see why

anaerobic does mean it dries without air. I think "the right stuff" is anaerobic and its not silicone based. Might want to double check.

Yes anaerobic doesn't dry if exposed to air, I use it at work a lot car quest has it for sure, its like a tube of red jelly, and just as sticky, totaly different from rvt

im not worried about that as its remote mounted and fuel injected, just guna needs to be oil resistant.  Im guna check car quest tomorrow for it.   the rtv i got doesn't break down in gas either, the only difference I can find is that it sets when there is no air, basically for machined surfaces, but ive used rtv on machined surfaces before with no problems. Idk some say its ok some say they never dun it so they only use anaerobic. I guess I'll be the guinnie pig and try rtv first if it dont work then Ill get the anaerobic.  From what Ive found and what everyone is saying there is no reason why rtv wouldn't work

If your trying rtv id try the right stuff... that stuff seals everything man.
