ive been thinking of taking some of my graduation open house money and either

A. buy some aluminum heads that are plenty enough for my use.
B. buy me some .600 lift spring and know my stuff is safe
C. get out of bogging loll

i highly doubt that C. will EVER happen  ;D

if your looking for heads dont forget to look at iron heads.... my darts have bigger #s than most alum heads.. and when buying stuff bigger may not be so better you need everything to work right together..

there's a couple things i've cought off this thread... first, not all sbc heads had the same size runners, if your compareing 461's to 882's  then the 882s are gonna make the 461 look like they've been ported like crazy... second the lift and life span for each set of stock springs varies immensely from head to head depending on what the heads were intended to go in.. aka, stock chevelle heads vs stock truck heads... best thing to do is take the springs off and have em checked for straightness, and fatigue and for coil binding point... if your gonna be reving on it i would highly reccomend droping weight out of your valve train, trying to save money in your valve train can end up costing you more in the long run.... new valve springs... retainers...and some lighter stronger valves might set ya back a lil now, but then you'll know exactly what you got going on in your motor, and everything will be in unquestionably good condition......
