I want to change my axles to one ton axles. Its a 1996 dodge 1500 sport. Just looking for some info on axle type and what I should do. Any information would be great. Type of axles, where I can find them? I dont have a real large budget. Thanks

Get some one tons from the same body style.  Thell bolt right up.  Bit there not cheap.

what size is it until you get to one ton? is a dana 60 or 80 a one ton?

dana 60s came in everything from road runners to trucks d60s for your truck are fairly cheap compared to other d60s

Dana 60 is a 3/4 ton from what I have found. Dana 70 and 80 are one ton i believe???
Now I just have to find a reasonable set.

dana 60 series had a front and back. the 70 series also had a front and rear but you mostly find 70 fronts in older vehicles. 80 series was a rear, usually out of a chassis cab truck

Fun fact: Dodge never made a 1 ton single wheel in those year ranges. So, unless you go dually, a 2500 Dana 60 axle will be the same.

But they suck as bad as what's under it now. Unitized hub bearings, front selector shaft, ball joints (wear fast compared to the kingpin style) yada yada

Might as well keep what you have till you blow the crap out of it.

94-02 60 front and 70 or 80 rear will bolt right in. 2500 and 3500 truck axles will both work.v10 trucks came with 4.10s for the most part some did come with 3.55 so look out for that. you can upgrade the front axle by finding a ball joint ford d60 and getting the otter stuff and do away with the unit bearings.

Well after blowing out the front pinion brg and destroying a 700.00 locker in the rear I have decided to step it up and go bigger!!!!  Just purchased a Dana 60 front and Dana 70 rear, they came out of a 1998 2500. They have 4:10's and im pretty sure the rear has a locker(have to remove the cover to be sure but I know it was a company truck for a gypsum quary and they go all out on thier trucks, only has 50K on it) if not i will be doing some more shopping. Still waiting on delivery should be here next week. Pics to come when we get started.

I have a 96 ram 2500 with a 60 front an 70 rear. I use mine for a hauler an plow/salt truck. The hub bearings go bad an suck to change. Done it twice now. But i seen on the 4x4 show on spike tv on sun mornings. They did a up grade to the front axel. To make it have a pull cable to engage it. Verse the vacum lines. Pretty sure u can go on the 4x4 show web site. An watch videos an get info about the jobs they do on the show.
