What's the difference in the two.? Ups and downs? Deciding if I want to buy this mini spool can't beat the price

spools are alot cheaper. A spool is gonna keep the rear locked together all the time just like if ya had a welded rear. Great for offroad/mudding but terrible for trying to turn on pavement or driving in snow. I wouldnt recommend it for daily driving. IMO. As for a locker it depends on the type. If your looking at a detroit or grizzly auto locker  which is what i run they work well. When your on the gas the locker will engage and power both wheels. when you let off or turn it will disengage and work like a open diff. I run a grizzly locker and like it alot. If you do any towing tho you will notice the locker lock and unlock when you get on and off the gas. If ya wanna spend big bucks you can get a selectable air or electric locker and have the best of both worlds an open diff when you want or full on locker.   ++peace

Lockers will have some slip to them around corners, designed to "lock" in as needed, compared to a mini spool that just replaces the spider gears and is fully locked no mater what, if its an offroad rig I would buy the mini spool, if an on road rig your gonna eat your tires around turns and switching lanes
Fat chicks welcome IT'S A 2 1/2 TON!!

How well would the spool hold up in a 10 bolt? Because I found a 3.73 ring n pinion for $50 and a spool for $50 so I figure can't go wrong. I don't really care for the squawk around corners it don't bother me. Just sick of the one wheel peel crap.

The mini spool will hold up fine, they are strong, its the rest of the axle you have to worry about lol

i had a 10 bolt in my 80s chevy reg cab long box with a 10 bolt and 33s. I replaced everything but the spool multiple times. my 2 cents i wouldnt ever put one in a 10 bolt again especially if its a dd  ++peace

one thing i have done on some rear ends is put in extra washers behind the spider gears. ( if thay have washers)  to tighten up spider gears that hepls it pois more.

On a 10 bolt do u have to run c clip eliminators? I had a 82 2wd with a 10 bolt about the 3rd time replacing the spider gears i got pissed and put a ford 9" in it lol

HAVE to... no, but its a good idea.
In need of a yank strap?  PM me... I have 'em!

Don't know with a 10 bolt and a mini spool. I had no luck with them perhaps it was my heavy right foot driving style

ShortTemperd

I'm thinkin I'm just gonna weld the spider gears and run it till it breaks

Big difference between spool and mini spool, just to be clear for everyone. Mini spool doesn't require c clip eliminator, spool does.  Mini spool, in my opinion, is a waste of money. They don't ever fit as tight as they should, and the slop destroys them. I ran a couple on a circle track car I had, they lasted about half a season each. A spool is nice, but if you have c clip axles its big job welding on the eliminators. I also wouldn't spend money on a locker for a ten bolt, so if you want to spin both tires, just weld it.

Shorttemperd  im glad you brought this up i was wondering myself.. i was gonna weld my 14bolt rear thats in my bogger, but now im thinking of just getting a mini spool for it sense you guys made it sound just as relevant.

Yea I've decided to just weld it. Why spend money when u can waste both tires for free?? loll

NAAA if its a mud truck then just weld the rear. Why spend $150 on a spool.

Well if it a dd u don't really want a locker, not unless its a Detroit or something that will unlock when u get off the gas.
