I've listened to this for at least 15 years. I realize that for some it's memories of ancestors painful past of slavery. But I also know that for some it represents their fallen ancestors who fell fighting for what they believed in (states rights).

I agree that it shouldn't be flown over the Capital building, but the War memorial is a proper place for it.

The people in the church didn't deserve to die, and I hope the kid gets the electric chair.

But I see this whole shooting event being used to further political agenda by certain rights groups because they failed 15 years ago to "remove" the CSA flag completely.

I also see spineless politicians who are covering their own asses for possible future votes.

As a Northern Yankee, I have no allegiance to the South, but as a Civil War buff of 25 years, I gotta say that attempting to mess with this "Flag" is going to cause more harm than good.

On a lighter note, this church shooting garnered so much attention by the media, but very little attention was given to the block party shooting in Detroit or elsewhere in the last week.

Ok so lets dabble in to a little history.
Who was the first legal slave owner? A black man who sued another black indentured servent and was awarded indefinite slavery of that indentured servant.
The confederate flag was never a state flag. It was a battle flag for the south.
Yes many southern states stated in their separation proclamation the right to own slaves but that was a right the northern states said they couldnt have. It had nothing to do with slavery and more to do with not wanting to losing their rights they already had.

I dont fly the Confederate flag out of hate. I fly the Confederate flag out of heritage. My family is from the South. My family were indentured servants. Yes I am a white male but on the same hand my family serve 25 years to a slave owner and then their kids had to serve 25 years to the same slave owner. The only difference was my family had the right to buy themselves out of their slavery either through working their contract or buying themselves out of their contract.

My great great (great?) uncle was vice president of the confederacy, I don't fly the flag, not out of heritage or hatred, just don't feel the need to, but I defend your right to do so ;D merica'

I fight any legislation that would either force anyone to fly one flag or not to fly another. Nonsense to me. I do wish people would fly the confederate lower than the american flag when both on display but thats just personal. a=f

Actually, according to the flag code, no other flag should be flown above the US Flag.

U.S. Code Title 36 Chapter 10 ยง175. Position and manner of display Line (c) "No other flag or pennant should be placed above or, if on the same level, to the right of the flag of the United States of America..."

There is actually quite a bit in the Flag Code about proper etiquette regarding the flag.

That being said--I fully support our right to fly the Confederate Battle Flag. I also fully support people's right to not fly it. But don't try to push your decision to not fly it onto me.

Thanks guys. Take a look at US Code 36 Chapter 10. You may learn a thing or two.

Thanks, I am aware of the code, but being that the code is not law, I just say it's a personal preference :) a=f

Gotcha. A lot of people don't know about the Code. I understand it's not a law. It is great to go by though. I get what you mean tho.
