Title: **New Slayer Build**-- New Pics 06-27-09
Post by: mudslayer2008 on June 17, 2008, 06:41:55 AM
I just got the slayer from 454jeep and I am going to finish it for the mounds or what ever else we can run in.
heres what I got for it so far:
5.7 liter  350 chevy engine approx. 20,000 miles on it (have Edelbrock alum. performer intake w/ carter 650 carb)
              400 turbo 4x4 trans mounted to a  203 t-case
              3 core radiator
              electric fan
3/4 ton axles (Drumbrakes was on there when I picked it up)
My plan is to make it a four seater from a two so my family can all go. So I have  fab work to do.

Ok I need help with this part the axles on it are four wheel drum so the year of the axles are ??????
Does any one know if I can put disk on the at least the front axle. It is a dana 44 with a closed u-joint ( basicly there is a ball around the u-joints ) or how would I put a driveshaft or diff. brake on it?

I may need my driveshafts cut to fit so if you know anyone to do it cheap let me know.
I will also need some tires and rims (prefer 35's or bigger)
I also need some type of seat for the rear either two buckets or a rear seat out of a small suv ( jeep, s-10 blazer, bronco II, ect) you get the picture.   Let me know what you have and what you want for it

Any comments or advice you have will be welcomed.  Thanks
I'll try and post some pics when I get more into the build.( Before and after)

I should be working on the slayer in a couple of weeks I got two weeks off starting next week ( gm shutdown ) so I should get the basment done then.
I'll keep ya'll posted and get some more pics up when I actualy start working on it once I start it wont take long to get it done I have most of the parts I need I just need the lock outs for the front axle now. If any one has any f/s at a reasonable $$$ please let me know.

Title: Re: mud slayer Update
Post by: mudslayer2008 on July 08, 2008, 12:07:25 AM
Pulled the engine, trans, and t-case from the donor truck today. I got my headers on saturday  (Thanx again 454jeep) still got to get the engine and trans mocked up to use my front drive shaft (as is. No shorting) But before I do that I got to do my front axle swap. by the way things are going and my budget going quick this thing may turn into a all winter project. But I'd rather take my time and do it right than hurry up and slap it together and have things brake the first time out.
Title: Re: mud slayer
Post by: mudslayer2008 on July 12, 2008, 04:26:30 AM
Ok another update I got the back of it all done and rear seat in. I will have the motor trans and transfercase in on saturday and hopfully the front axle swaped out. I will also have the two front seats in. Then alls I will have left to do is floor boards, fire wall, some type of doors, and side panels. Oh yeah and wire the engine. and put the radiator and fan in.

I'll have some pics up as soon as I can get my camera to charge.

Title: Re: **Mud Slayer**-- back to the build
Post by: mudslayer2008 on January 02, 2009, 01:09:35 AM
I will start working on this again tomarrow (Friday 1/2/09) I will post pics as I go I have had a
change in plans for this build. I am using a different frame that has the wheel base I need to fit
my drive train in with no modifications and I will be running my 400 sbc until I can get my 350
built the way I want it or find a good cheap bbc for it. The frame is from a 3/4 ton "77" chevy
suburban with a dana 44 front axle I thought it was a corp. 10 bolt until doing some research on
it. The axle also has the warn lock outs on it. I don't know what that will do for a np203 t-case
but their on there. I am also putting 2" receiver hitches front and rear and building custom
bumpers for it I should have some pics by saturday night once I get into this build it should not
take me long as I have most of the parts to build it. The only parts I may need is brake parts
(rotors, pads, calipers, lines) I have a corp. 14 bolt ff for the rear and will probably make the
brackets fit it for four wheel disk brakes I have a corp 10 bolt I can use for parts.

And it still is not torn apart yet. I am going to have to wait until friday to repletish my cuting tools. I should have some pics by sunday if all goes well. Well I finally started workin on the "SLAYER" today. I got the square tubing body? off the frame and hanging from the rafters. I still got to take the lift blocks and springs off the rear axle and the old frame can come out of the barn and the new one in. I'll post pics later tonight.

This is what is taking the place of the slayer or will be the New Slayer when I'm done and hope to have it done for the easter bog.           it needs new rings in the motor and I'm going to paint it and put a roll bar in it.

Ok   I got a radiator and got it in Thanks  SwampRat  But now I have a issue with flooding before it starts it'll almost start but then it floods  Carb or timing  it has brand new timming chain and gears and it was set perfect when I put it in may have to play with the distribitor a little  ??? ???

Almost had it started and the battery died.  I don't know I'll play with it when it gets warm again.

it RUNS!!!!!!    but it has a cam to it ???  (it sounds like a drag car at idle)   timing ???   it has brand new timming chain and gears
and I put a electric fuel pump on it but when I turn it on it kills the motor  but with it off it will run all day ???  I would think it would run out of gas without the pump being on ???

i put a water pump on it last summer.....weird...anyways, with the solenoid acting like that it might be a bad ground or possibly the starter has a flat spot on it. id pull the starter and see if i can jump it on the bench before i did anything else.

I put some add ons on the bronco yesterday.

I put a rubber flap on the front about a week ago.

I added the front receiver yesterday.
(http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn114/mudslayer2008/100_2705.jpg) (http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn114/mudslayer2008/100_2705.jpg)
(http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn114/mudslayer2008/100_2706.jpg) (http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn114/mudslayer2008/100_2706.jpg)
it is welded to the frame on the sides welded to the bumper with 1/4" plate and then it has 1"X 2" tubing welded at a 45 degree angle from the bottom of the receiver to the frame.
(http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn114/mudslayer2008/100_2707.jpg) (http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn114/mudslayer2008/100_2707.jpg)

then I couldn't find a insert that that I liked without a drop to it so I built my own. it is 2" thick wall tubing cut and formed to fit the 7/8" (6.5 T) shackle I have then I welded a 1/8" wall pipe in it as a sleeve.
(http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn114/mudslayer2008/100_2708.jpg) (http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn114/mudslayer2008/100_2708.jpg)

with the shackle in it
(http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn114/mudslayer2008/100_2709.jpg) (http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn114/mudslayer2008/100_2709.jpg)

this is what it looks like in the back
(http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn114/mudslayer2008/100_2710.jpg) (http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn114/mudslayer2008/100_2710.jpg)

I got the front insert made and painted today.

Here is what it looks like
(http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn114/mudslayer2008/100_2711.jpg) (http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn114/mudslayer2008/100_2711.jpg)

The Bronco has a new look.......  Let me know what you think

the bronco will get painted when the weather warms up a bit here is a pic of a trailer I built 2 years ago the bronco will be the same color as this.

well i decided the "SLAYER" on the front doesn't look as good as I thought it was going to so it may get relocated on the back or I might just airbrush it on after I paint the bronco.

dont wanna sound like an a$$ hole but it really takes away from the ford front clip with it there. i think it would look bad ass if it was air brushed on after you paint it though. good choice man, love what you have done with it so far. cant wait to see it actually get some good mud time.

well it's been awhile I havn't done to much to it except new bearings and seals in the front axle and try to get the power steering working.  But I did get my 6" strap yesterday from 4xken thanks again.  cheaper than TSC but made alot better and it's made right here in Detroit, MI.

nothing yet  I'm in the process of tearing the F-250 apart. I'll have my mini spool ordered by the weekend. as soon as the parts truck is torn apart I'll put the body lift on the bronco.

I ordered the mini-spool today. Can't wait to get it and get this thing done. swaping out the t-case this weekend and hopfuly getting the body lift done as well so when my spool gets here I can put it in and go play.

rear end is torn apart waiting for the mini-spool to get here.  can't change out the t-case because this np 205 is attached to c4 trans and the input shaft is differant so I'm stuck with the 203. I'm starting the body lift tomarrow after examination of the body mounts there are only 4 that are good the rest is either broke or pulled thru the frame. I'll get pix as I go.

leaving the 9 inch in it for now that way I don't have to get new rims. I'm kinda limited on money right now been laid off for 4 weeks and I got at least 5 more weeks to go before I go back to work.

I do however have to take the "slayer" off the front because the body lift raised the hood release to the middle of the "A" and I can't get my hand in there to get to the hood release.

I got my special package today and installed it (the mini-spool) I also took the slayer letters off the front so the bronco has yet another look to it.

the mini-spool with the chromoly pin

a better look at the lift from the side with all the tires on.

going to start painting tomarrow if it don't rain if it does then maybe friday or saturday. So most likly I won't be at the mounds this weekend. Oh well I'd rather take my time them rush. But I'm not going to do a bunch of body work either the rear driver quarter panel is all rotted and I'm not going to replace it or patch it. 1. it's a bogger it will be packed full of mud most of the time anyways. 2. I don't have money to put into this truck like that. 3. I'm lazy and don't feel like doing the body work. I'm just going to sand and paint.

It's finally done for now power steering works (it only took me three pumps to get it to work) the rearend is locked together engine runs sweet, the only other thing I need it 488 gears front and rear, but that will be later on when I have my taxes and everything paid for the year.

I put a roll bar in the back of it to go to the dunes and be able to take the top off of it but was unable to go.  I don't think I'll be using the "SLAYER" theme on the bronco anymore I got something else in mind but I'm not going to say what that is right now.  I'll post a pic of the roll bar later I have slower internet now so it might take a day or two.

Title: '79 Bronco down & out for the year
Post by: mudslayer2008 on May 17, 2010, 09:26:41 PM
well I lost all oil pressure on the last day at the mounds (03/14/10) so I pulled the motor and found metal shavings through out the motor so I put my extra 460 in it and tried to have it going by the time the mounds opened back up on Sunday 05/16/10 but couldn't get it to run right. When I did get it to run it smokes worse than the other one ever did and it is pushing oil out out of the right bank between the head and exhaust manifold plus my brand new spark plugs are full of oil and the engine will not start up. after talking to a couple of people and checking it out I have a stong belief that it has some bad rings and possibly bad heads. So this is my luck I have two 460 engines and a 400 modified and non of them run worth a p00.
Unless I can find a good 460 motor or at least a good short block that has no issues for $300.00 or less then I am done for the year, as I DO NOT! have the money to keep putting into these engine problems and not be able to run a full year with out some type of internal engine problem.

Sorry for the rant, I needed to vent a little but this is my luck as always bad luck or no luck at all.
thanks of reading

going to try a compression test and see where I stand and what I need to do hopefuly it won't cost me that much to fix

compression test shows good rings   highest is 180 psi and lowest is 158 psi  according to my rebuild book the compression chart shows for the 180 highest the lowest acceptable is 135 so i'm right in the good compression range. Plus I have chocolate milk for oil.  I am going to change the heads and probably put upright headers on it but, it will take some time to get the money up to do so.  I'm looking at about $400.00 to do the job.
It's not cheap to play in the mud with a big block.

I pulled the motor out that has the no oil pressure issue and put another one in and now I have head issues I can't seem to get ahead of this game. hopfully I can get this all fixed and have it run good for awhile.

those are the heads I'm going to use I just need to get the gasket set and some upright headers I broke the exhaust manifolds for those heads so I'll be down for a little while. I've been laid off the past couple weeks and don't have the money to put into it right now.
