I had to sell my old mud bogger, so I've decided to build another bigger, badder mud buggy. I started with a set of 3/4 ton axles(HD-44 front, 14 bolt rear)
I have a SBC 350, TH-350, NP-203(motor needs new seals/gaskets, tranny needs rebuilt)
I got a set of 38" military tires and a set of 16" rims to fit 'em on
(http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d186/fismo_/Abomination/DSCF0723.jpg)
Then I got a crappy donor body from a well-meaning friend
(http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d186/fismo_/Abomination/Abomination.jpg)
Then I got a Blazer frame from a fellow bogger
(http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d186/fismo_/Abomination/DSCF0736.jpg)
Then I got a better body from another well-meaning friend
(http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d186/fismo_/Abomination/DSCF0761.jpg)
Over the course of the fall and winter break from school, I've been stripping down the frame, mounting the cab and fenders and generally getting ready for the mud!!

And here is a shot with the tires setting next to it
(http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d186/fismo_/Abomination/2010.jpg)
And a shot with the rear fender fabbed up and the frame jacked up, kinda what it's going to look like
(http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d186/fismo_/Abomination/001-1.jpg)
Well, what do you all think??
definitly sounds like a build!
Looking good... They all start some place right... Keep up the good work
nice keep on it cool piece
wow when my dad told me what you were building i got a chuckle. this is going to be one bad ass ride man.
thats pretty sweet
cool
looks cool as hell...ide like to see it bog...is it spring yet?
I like it
Going to be a cool looking rig when finished
Cool project!
thats pretty cool! ==kp

Thats awsome. Is going to remain a convertible?

Well, for now, unless I can find some sort of hard top for it. I told everyone, "Your gonna need a rain coat and goggles for a ride in this beast", so top or no, it'll be fun!
I wanted to use the original steering wheel, so I had to do a little fab work...
I had to grind down the original steering shaft a little(not enough to weaken it)
This is the finished product. Turned out pretty good, I think. With the size of the military steering wheel, it makes it very easy to turn.
What do you think of my make-shift rod end(this is just to get it in and out of the garage during the build up)
==cl You don't see good use of old military parts anymore! loll Nice build, can't wait to see it done! What size tires are those?

it says 38's....
this rig is cool...gonna put a box on it?
The back is still open to debate...I am going to mount the other rear fender(driver's side is on now), but between the fenders there is room...I have to mount a fuel tank of some sort, and I was thinking of just putting expanded steel or some form of open-air flooring, to let the mud fall through. I would like to put some sort of side panels on the back in front and behind the fenders, but I haven't thought that far ahead yet... ==doh
thats a neat project, looks like the kids like it too. keep us posted! ==kp ==wgm a=f applaudd
I wanted to make super-stout tow points, front and rear, and in the process of rust removal, I had to lose the last 8" or so of the frame, so I decided to start with the rear.
and then, just for added reinforcement...
Then, I liked how the back turned out so much, I did the same sort of thing to the front
(http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d186/fismo_/Abomination/005.jpg)
I still have to do a little more reinforcing on the front...
I got a GM Brake pedal assembly from a buddy, along with a booster and Master brake cylinder. I had to cut it down a bit, but I got it to fit!
When I got it all bolted in, I had to modify the pedal a little to clear the military steering column...it seems to hang in a good spot, not too low or too high, with enough room next to it for the "Air pedal"...
When I got around to the other side of the firewall, there was a little more drama involved...the booster had to sit a little higher on the firewall than I had originally intended, due to clearance issues with the military steering wheel. I noticed a little rubbin' going on between the top of the booster and one of the hood braces. A little "convincing" from a cut-off wheel and my good friend "Thor", and no more clearance issues!
Looking good nice ride applaudd
That things gonna be a monster sledd
looks tough and fun when its warm
you should take the other cab and put it on the back people wouldnt know if you were coming or going you could put rad and tank under the hood and 2 more seats SWEET
Nice project enjoy it
I got a little more done on the Abomination...I got another fender from a buddy, and after checking it out, decided to swap the old front fender for the "new" one...the new one fit with a little finessin', and the old one had to have a little repair work to work in the rear area...
I had the other front pieces from the other donated body, as well as the side pieces, so I bolted them on. I also built some braces for the flooring, mounted them in, and cut and bent up the expanded steel...didn't get it fastened down, but that shouldn't take too long.
My youngest son, Jake, was out helping me test the "sit-ability" of the new rear fender! ;D
(http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d186/fismo_/Abomination/005-3.jpg)
Lookin Good! Cool Project!
looks pretty sittable! git r done!
kool build, what year is the body?
I'm not sure what year the body is, but it is a Jeep! 2 1/2 ton M-35A2 is what it says on the tag...
I pulled the body all back off the frame, cut off all the extra body mounts, brackets and braces, ground down, Wire-wheeled and painted the frame.
I got another set of axles, this set with matching gears(4.10s), so I cleaned 'em up, painted 'em and put 'em under...the front axle is a Dodge Dana 44...
The rear is a Chrysler 9 1/4...
I figured since I had the axle off, I might as well do a shackle flip on the rear. One of my leaf packs had a broken leaf, so I got a "new" set of springs whild I was at it...
I also had to do something with the tired, whopped out springs on the front, so I got an extra set of springs for the front and stacked 'em up!
My middle boy, Brady, is my "Crew Chief", so I had him hold the tape for the before and after shots...
I gained over two inches by adding three leaves to each side, and it definitely helped to stiffen up the front suspension! It should be able to handle the bouncing and jouncing in the mud!
I put the cab back on, but figured it would be easier running brake lines and fuel lines before I put the drive train in.
Since I had the drive train out, I figured I might as well clean it up and splash a little paint on it...
Before...

They turned out so nice, I'm going to do the engine and trans, too!
damn dude thats gonna be sweet lookingv when you get it done.
Going to be cool when you get it done!
This is the "before" of the trans...
...and the "before" of the engine...
Now, I just have to get off my lazy butt, clean 'em up, paint 'em and take the "after" shots!! ;)
I'm hoping that all this work wire-wheeling, grinding and painting will pay off...hopefully the mud will wash off a little easier after the bogs. And, if it doesn't look too bad when I'm all done sprucing it up, I may even run it in a parade or two! :)
Hell yea that things sweet....i thibk it needs 60's n a bbc! Or diesel!
I'm unemployed, so this is a "low-budget" build...so far I've spent less than $100.00 on this build up. 60's and a BB or Diesel are a little out of my price range, unless y'all are willing to donate something... :D
Man warthog, I like the fit and finish effort you are putting into this thing. It really makes the rig look that much better.
I got nothin' but time, while I'm saving up for the next big part...I even ground down the casting marks on the t-case, so hopefully the mud will wash off easier.

very cool project! keep up the good work! great low buck project! looks like the boys are having a blast helping ,something they'll remember with dad! very cool!
I got the Transmission all cleaned up, wire-wheeled and painted today. Bolted it up to the T-case. Now, I just need to get a pan gasket, filter and fluid, plus a couple of trans lines...
I got the trans/t-case installed! I raised it up and bolted it in for (hopefully) the last time before it hits the mud!
I also picked up my seat from a fellow bogger at Rizzo's bog on Saturday, so I threw that in and started figuring ride height and steering wheel clearance...
...and the reason that it's taking me so long to get my bogger done is those pesky robotic cats! :P

Looking good Warthog!

It's in, bolted to the trans and frame-rails, just gotta hook up all the sheot to make it start, run cool and tell me what's going on inside!
