Title: PROJECT: Big Loud!
Post by: Blazin40s on December 14, 2010, 01:51:28 AM
 86 K5 Blazer:

Suspension: 6 inch springs in the front, Shackle flip with 4inch drop, 4.5 inch greeseable shackles, 1inch 0 rate add-a-leaf, and 2inch block in the rear.

Powertrain:  355sbc pushin 400hp, 700r4 with 2500 stall, 5 bolt sprags, Corvette cervo, shift kit, upgraded pump, bands and clutches, 208 tcase.  14 bolt full float rear welded, Dana 60 front open with 4.10s.  Dynotech 3 inch rear Drive shaft.  Dynotech front drive shaft.

Tires:  39.5 x 13.5 Super Swamper Iroks on 16.5 x 9.75 steel rims

Other Goodies:  Roll Cage, full gauges, Optima yellow top battery, tach with shift light, 3 core radiator, elec fan, 16 gallon RCI fuel cell, semi truck trans cooler, 3 inch exhaust with chrome 4inch tips and thrush turbo mufflers.

Future plans include 5.38s and prob 44s

I've had this truck for a couple years now, and its a work in progress so I figured id start a thread.  When I got this truck it had a bad trans and t case, and the carb was junk, no seat belts, etc.  Had to do a ton of work on it to get her goin good, but its so reliable now I drive it to the mounds and bogs.

Yeah I know its not that big or loud compaired to some other rigs, but my thre yearold named it, and when I got it, it was only runnin resonators no mufflers so it was like twice as loud, now u can kinda listen to music in it, lol sometimes

I'm learning the same lesson...that being, you'll never be the biggest and loudest ( unless you have endless cubic dollars!) but have fun building your own rig in each stage. Learn a lot as you go, don't make the same mistake twice and enjoy the time with your kids while you're out wheeling!! That's how it works for me anyway...my son loves bogging. Music usually covers up the squeaks and rattles too!

I also have a full float 14 bolt rear in the garage, but I really need a 60 front in the worst way, although the 10 bolt front has held up ok so far, only one broken shaft this season, I just try to not turn lol!

That's good stuff. How funny! Fender flares would prolly look good on your rig too.

I know what you're saying about getting out of work......I need to get my tires on and been working too damn much! Header bolts seem pretty easy to deal with in terms of rust or any seizing up?

if you run 4" backspacing in the front and 2" backspacing in the rear...the truck will track the same.....meaning the tires will stick out the same amount front and rear.

Had the 16.5 X 9.75 rims installed today, looks tougher now I think.  Deff widened the stance a few inches.  Guess I can finally get some fender flares cause the tires finally stick out a little past the fenders.  Sent the pics to mudduck to post for me, cause I can't upload from my phone and my computers down.   ++peace

==kp   It does look better now. Like the wider stance! Any idea what the measurement is from outside of tire to outside of tire in the front? Just trying to compare width to mine with the 6 luggers on it.

Ill measure later and post
Good deal...

Measured at about 88 inches.
ok, with the tractors on mine it measured about 91" and they stick out a few inches beyond the fender flares.

Wooo Hooo!  Just got home from Big Als and brought a D60 front with me!  Will get it in, in the next couple weeks.  Then its on next season, ill finally b able to get my double pumper carb and rip it up, the vaccum secondary carb won't even open due to my cam size, so I'm basicly running a 2bbl

86 K5 Blazer:

Suspension: 6 inch springs in the front, 6 inch blocks and helper spring in rear.

Powertrain:  355sbc pushin 400hp, 700r4 with 2000 stall, 5 bolt sprags, Corvette cervo, shift kit, upgraded pump, bands and clutches, 208 tcase.  14 bolt full float rear welded, Dana 60 front open with 4.10s.  Dynotech 3 inch rear Drive shaft.

Tires:  39.5 super swamper iroks.

Other Goodies:  full gauges, optima yellow top battery, tach with shift light, 3 core radiator, elec fan, 16 gallon RCI fuel cell, semi truck trans cooler, 3 inch mandrel bent exhaust with chrome 4inch tips and thrush turbo mufflers.

Future plans include full cage and 1 tons with 5.13s and prob 44s

I've had this truck for about a year and a half, and its a work in progress so I figured id start a thread.  When I got this truck it had a bad trans and t case, and the carb was junk, no seat belts, etc.  Had to do a ton of work on it to get her goin good, but its so reliable now I drive it to the mounds and bogs.

Tcase is so damn leaky, I traced trans fluid bout half mile going down my street in the snow, and it poped out of 4hi a couple times last snow fall.  Gonna take my original case to my buddys for a rebuild.  The one in it now was a temp junkyard case.  Lasted longer then I figured it would.

The progress feels good doesn't it!! I cracked the same housing and the main case on my last 208. Guess that's what happens when a tcase locks up while your doing 55 on M59!

Took it out to budget bogger$ bog yesterday, she did real good.  But developed a deathwobble on the way home.  Took out the kingpin spring and added a couple washers ontop of it (thanks for the idea sam). And it seemed to help.  Gonna check my steering stabilizer and get a new spring.  But I finally got to reallt beat on it, and she seemed to love it.

So after the shackle flip the axles now too far forward making the rear driveshaft too long, so I'm gonna use the offset in the 0 rate add a leaf to move the rear axle an inch back, that should fix the issue
Title: Re: PROJECT: Big Loud!
Post by: Blazin40s on March 09, 2012, 06:26:15 PM
Got the axle moved back an inch and shimmed 1.5* still have a slight vibration at crusing speed, but only when I let off the gas.  Gonna put my buddys angle finder on it and see if I can't fine tune it a bit.  Don't really want to get a cv shaft.

There better/masked with the real tires on it, so I'm gonna worry about it after tgw.  Gonna do a s.y.e. on my 208 with some dodge parts and see if the xtra length will gimme better angles.  My rear pinion is 2 degrees off, but I can't get any more pitch w/o messing up my angle on the dshaft u joints.

Trucks not running right.  Keeps backfiring thru carb, did compression test and it was at 150psi in all the cylinders.  Gonna throw a new chip in the distributer and prob throw a buddies carb on to see what's goin on.

Got the carb issues all straightened out.  Could prob jump up a few jet sizes, but I'm not gonna mess with it till after tgw.  But on a good note, the 4bbls are opening for the 1st time ever.....deff seems to help a lil bit.
