ok i found a set of 2 1/2 ton axle pretty cheap but it need a rear pinion how hard is it to change a rear pinion on a 2 1/2 ton axle has 5.83 and where could i get one
is it like a 60 never messed with rocks
depends what kinda axles
Top loader???
yeah i dont know anything about them but i can get a the set for 400 just needs rear pinion
and what would i have to go from 1 ton to rocks
there probley not rocks with them gears
would they be gms?
im not sure thats what i was thinking can you get pics ???
yeah idk thats what the guy said but ill ask him tomorrow
sounds like a gm 2 1/2 ton
yeah thats what i was thinking since there soo cheap
wildtime would be the guy to ask for parts. i know hes has hookups on rocks possibly gms?
i dont want them if there not rocks
for 400 bucks......pretty cheap for gms.....would get you started working your way to real 2 1/2 tons
yeah ill have to check into them a little more got to find a pinion first and see how much it cost
if i remember right...pinions drop out like a ford 9".......dont quote me on that......should be easy to find
ok im prolly goin do since there pretty cheap but would i have to get new drive shaft or any thing else to do the swap or would the bolt right up
i couldnt tell you on if they would bolt up or not...never ran them....Le Dude had or has a set right now i think....pm him...he should be able to tell you.
ok thanks
i dont think there gmc 's pm frank and ask what gears he has.
IF there gms the front will be reverse rotation. either need to run the gm t case, flip the pig, or flip the whole axle. as far as i know gm 2.5s only came with
6.17 or 6.38 gears though
if they are the 1 1/2 ton they damn near look they same they have 6.72. they are the same as the old gmc trucks.my brother in law has them axles under his truck they are a little narrower than the gmc's. the spider gears go out on them easy that mite be what is the problem. then u can just weld it up.they look like over sized ford 9 inch axleswith big skinny drums if they are wide drums they are 2 1/2 tons and have 6.17 gears. if they are 2 1/2 tons let me know i have all kinds of brand new brake parts baking plates brake shoes springs wheel cylinders or i got patternsfor disc brake conversion front and rear.
ok ill let you guy know im gunna go look at them saterday
