Title: cj/yj conflicts
Post by: Captn. J on August 10, 2011, 12:27:09 AM
i m currently doing some work with cj and yj and i m very new to this JEEP thing    i  i ve gotten most of body stuff figured out, but here what i m trying to figure is that i m trying to use my 78 cj drivetrain, but after measuring seem like the yj axle re wider? not same as cj's?  i dont wanna hassle with welding new perch on for the cj and i did want to use the cj axle cuz it s a pass side so i can use my dana 20 but after taking the axle out i found it  its  rusty and locked  i m sure the calipers re bad or something but i wont mind using the yj axle since they re cleaner n nice already bolted in

ok now  i m gonna want use my 258/ T 150     since the yj axle is driver drop    what can i put behind the T150? to make it a driver side drop?  or  any other idea ?? i dont really wanna find other drivetrain since i already have em and would be cool to be old school with the drivetrain and i ll be ok with just changing the t case if i have to...

sorry if this is confusing to u ...

cj axles might be narrow tracks. you can run a dana 300 and a flip kit i think. you could always trade off or sell both sets of axles and pick up some wide track axles from a mid 80s cj7

i think it ll be easier to get a dana 300 flip kit or whatever    than dealing w the axles   i m fine with running yj axles

i researched   there s no  300 backed to a T150    so guess i ll have to try keep the drivetrain and save money or trade for a widetrack cj axles  to save me all the headaches ...

Just seems like it would be easier and cheaper to cut the old perches of and weld in new ones.

I have a wide track amc 20 with 3.31s and a limted slip and 1pc shafts. Needs wheel bearings but I think I have a new set. I'll see if I can find a wide track front

narrow trac is 53" wms-wms front and 50.5" wms-wms rear
wide trac is 56" front and 54.5" rear
