Title: Bud Wogger
Post by: Bryank on January 15, 2012, 03:10:38 PM
I have a 1973 Chevy 1 ton short box. It has a 10" suspension lift, dana 60 front open,14 bolt full floater rear with a detroit locker and 4:56 gears. For now it has a 413 sb, 400 tranny with 3000 stall converter, and a divorced 205 tcase. The gas tank's already in back and radiator's going back there also. It has a fiberglass tilt front clip also and i run 38.5 tsl super swampers.  It's currently getting put together in the garage, can't wait for spring!

I'm gonna have just a oh p00 handle on the passenger side and gauges in front of me. might even see about moving the steering and brake booster away from frame about 3". no room to even take my sb valve covers off let alone when my bb gets back in the saddle.

Title: Re: The Hulk
Post by: Bryank on January 25, 2012, 01:10:13 AM
haven't done much lately but i did get a newer lighter brake booster,  and the right flywheel for the 413 and got a new shock to replace the one i bent at the end of last year. Only actual work i did was gutted the dash completely, but i still gotta cut some of the frame of the dash out. then it'll be only steering wheel and brakes

Update- dash frame is cut out, tranny is bolted back up. next is finding the home for the divorced 205 and modifying driveshafts from the longbox. I made a to do list and i gotta get going on the old beast. I am working on getting my 350 rebuilt at the machine shop that should be sweet it's gonna be a 500 horse running on premium gas. Hopefully it gets done this summer but damn hp aint cheap! just the bottom end is 3000 and the tops gonna be another 2000 so don't know whether it'll be done this year or not. heres the list of to do's.
new brake lines and fuel lines
getting a steering stabilizer hooked up for the crossover steering
box in the motor
get radiator mounted in the back and run the piping
make bumpers front and back
maybe exhaust
dana 60 needs seals, lower balljoints, and the new lockouts installed
redo any bad sheet metal, get a good sprayer setup for the windshield wiper

Title: Re: The Hulk
Post by: Bryank on February 02, 2012, 09:53:01 PM
Also gotta make a spare tire mount
i also gotta get lights mounted up and front end of tilt front clip needs diamond plate covering it
still gotta make new dash with just gauges and oh p00 bar on passenger side
id like to make a roll bar in the back and build a roll cage in the cab
possibly paint it
change the govenor in tranny so it dont shift at 5000 rpm
shave the 14bolt and possibly disc brake conversion
and put my marine alternator on it
also the msd needs hooked up along with tach and high torque starter.
Damn and springs almost here! time to get  moving!

Title: Re: The Hulk
Post by: Bryank on February 26, 2012, 11:15:49 PM
here is a few pics of the mount i made for the tcase. on my longbox it bolted right to the crossmember that the back cab mounts sit on. on my shortbox it didnt have a crossmember across for the back cab mounts they were individual so i just connected em with 3" angle iron then a plate is gonna be bolted to the bottom of the angle iron. i wouldn't need the plate but im moving the tcase forward a few more inches to keep a good rear driveshaft angle.

The bad part is im a big block guy! what started out as dropping off the forged crank to get checked cause it'd been sitting for almost 10 years turned out doing the whole damn motor. If i would have spent this kinda money on my 454 or 402bb id be way better off. oh well if the sb don't cut it in the bogger ill put it in my 78 z28 camaro!

yeah im hoping for at least 450hp on premium or i might run alcohol and who knows how much hp she'll have with a 100 shot of nos! gonna wait and see how it does before i get the nos kit though. I'd rather not violate the ol 360 but if them boggers don't spin fast enough it has no choice! The intake is getting drilled and tapped for the nos bosses regardless :)

Get rid of the thermostate. Problem solved for good.
i think that front left tire was low on pressure should have checked, yeah thermostat coming out i might gut one out for a restrictor? heard that works good.
Title: Re: The Hulk
Post by: Bryank on June 16, 2012, 08:19:44 PM
took the thermostat out today and wow what a difference! thermostat didnt even seem stuck but whatever i wish i wuld have not had it in from the start. it took about 20 minutes of running it and reving it up just to get temp to 180 then after i turned the fans on the temp went to 140 and was dropping! then i took the fuel regulator off and the gauge quit working.... think it was to much lol so gonna put the holley regulator on and take it to orleans raceway tomorow and see how it does.

well this beater is under reconstruction a bit. after dealing with it running half ass 5 or 6 bogs it's down till it all gets sorted out. then gonna get rid of them 1973 body mounts! and add about 2" body lift and beef up the cab mounts too. then tilt clip will be able to go back on. also gotta redo boxed in front end to be more water proof and away from slicing my tires ocasionally! and last the goofy hulk is coming off and it might get a cheap paint job! gonna miss calling it the hulk though gotta come up with new name ???

well been a while, the motor turned out fine so far had very little mud in it and none came out when i changed the oil. still gotta put the other tranny in it. gonna cut my boggers at some point. picked up these tractors today for cheap. they measure 44" tall. gonna need more lift and gotta weld in some centers soon. think i need a tire storage center now 10 fricken tires now. looking forward to spring! not all the work i gotta do though.
What is the actual spec for those tires? Wanna find some like that!!
they are 10.00 x 22. they come off irrigation system. they measure 44-1/2" tall installed on truck with almost 2" paddles :)
Thanks for the info...the search begins! They look good!

got both drums removed and big blocks is at the machine shop.  like losing the drums thinkin of whether i should build a collar around the hubs to keep some mud out but  ??? Definately got some more ground clearance, gonna cut as much off the ff14bolt as i can too to gain even more.

Title: Re: Bud Wogger
Post by: Bryank on September 23, 2013, 07:12:25 PM
it's just a real bummer. last time i rebuilt this thing it lasted 7 years. i thought it'd last longer this time! p00 i put in a forged crank arp main bolts and it plastigauged perfect. it's starting hard and can hear it squeak mains are f'd. just sucks ass at least $500 to fix her up again. if i can sell my motorcycle for $500 or trade it for a nice 350 ill put the racing small block in it but we will see.

Sounds like ur havin the same bad luck i am!
Title: Re: Bud Wogger
Post by: Bryank on September 26, 2013, 07:47:42 PM
started it a few minutes ago and it had 60psi oil pressure and sounded good? i only let it run a minute though im pretty sure its still f'd. the oil pressure hasn't been good since the start. it primed good 70psi. but after starting and running it it usually 60psi idle cold and rev up to maybe 75 and warm 20-30 idle and 50 rev up. nothing like first time i built it. it would idle 70  cold and rev up to 100 and 50-60idle and still almost 80 rev warm.you wouldn't think a forged crank would make that much of a difference? i know they do expand a little when hot but nope something else went wrong. only thing i could think of was when i went to bolt up the torque converter it didn't sit against the flywheel easy. i had to tighten the bolts to get it snug against the flywheel. not sure on that though? just remember back in the day my friend had that problem. his mains got f'd up because the torque converter was pulling on the crank.
Title: Re: Bud Wogger
Post by: Kyle on September 27, 2013, 07:39:32 AM
Mine had the same symptoms before i finally lost all idle pressure. Mine was cuz the rear main cap never had the oil pump torqued to it when it was line honed. Once that bearing went so did the rest. Dont take long. I doubt ur crank had anything to do with it
Title: Re: Bud Wogger
Post by: BAD APPLE on September 27, 2013, 01:15:31 PM
Mine holds 70 when first stated but one I run it a few times it drops to 30-35 at idle been like that for three years
Title: Re: Bud Wogger
Post by: just one more on September 27, 2013, 04:55:45 PM
rule of thumb, 10 lbs per 1000 rpms, but not necisarily 10 lbs at 1000 rpm idle, if you are running 6000 rpms you should see roughly 60-70 psi etc....25-35 psi is ok at idle (warm/hot), my engine cold 65 psi at idle, when it warms up, 25-35, both of the engines that i have ran in the last 6 years had/have the same charictoristics with zero problems,

just sayin  :)

well gonna tear it apart over winter to see what's up. gonna pick up a decent 350 for my dually hopefully tonight or tomorow and put the racing small block back in it for now. I gotta go wheeling one more time before the years out! i was having to much fun!
Title: Re: Bud Wogger

hmm. it was clean and i made sure to weld this one on so don't think it's that. im pretty sure that torque converter wiped out the thrust bearing and is letting the crank walk around. but on a good note traded my motorcycle for this rebuilt odly colored 357! it runs great and should work perfect in the dually. bogger is getting the sbc back for now. it should rip this time around!

lol it was built by Charles Brisco. He is the motor guro of hastings! lol. he had like 20 high performance motors in a 1 stahl garage i couldnt believe it. he claims it was the only paint he had laying around. but hey it does run great and the bogger is a ripper now with the small block back in it. plans for next year is to shed some weight. joining the s10 bogger crowd. throwing this beater on it. might have to change the name to the red rocket lol
