Post by: Captn. J on February 09, 2012, 08:09:57 PM
i know they re different in a way but i just wanna know if i can use a 350th trans behind a lt1?   and motor mount r they the same?   thinking about a lt1 swap ... what s good n bad about lt1?

tranny will bolt up to it, as for the bad about them, the opti-spark likes to go out the distributor is run off the cam in front of the motor, the water pump like to leak on it and then your spark goes haywire with bad missfires and sometimes not starting at all, Idk what you want to swap it into but not a good idea for it to go into a mud truck or something that will see moisture under hood..... opti-spark units hate water/moisture. As for Tbi i have never had a problem with them other than routine maintance or just flat out killing the engine, cuz thats my style lmao   but I would take a tbi over a lt1 anyday :)

did a little searching and yes motor mounts are same location, also lt1 is a reverse cooling for higher compression and further spark advance

i personally think an lt1 swap would be pretty sweet. dont see em very often and ya can make more power outta em. tbis are very limited

Stock LT1 motor mounts are different where they bolt to the motor, but they also have the holes to use the old style mounts.
If you get one make sure its a 95 or older, they improved the optispark on the later models. I'm running an LT1 in my jeep, there pretty good motors, don't take a lot to squeeze out a bunch of power.

the big differences between the lt1 and the gen 1 350 is the cooling system, the gen1 is belt driven water pump and the coolent goes through the intake, the lt1 is a cam driven water pump and the coolent doesn't go through the intake

so i m probably better off going with tbi  if it s gonna be a bogger since will see mud and water , and there many tbis out there .

it will be much easier and cheaper to keep running with a TBI for sure.
