Title: Auto 4x4 option
Post by: wideopen on November 02, 2013, 10:43:14 AM
I have a 99 jimmy 4.3/automatic  it's got the 2hi/4hi/4lo/auto4hi setup this not the same as a all wheel drive setup right? The reason I ask is none of the 4x4 lights come on or make any noise underneath the pos but I notice when im turning the front is locked in (the only sounds come from the control module on the pass side kick panel) and I'm kinda stumped I've been through all the wiring and plugs fuse's fluid/filters exc. think I might just pull the front shaft

you have a full time type of case you don't have a 2wd option

It looks as if the po swapped all the electronics trying to diagnose it (all look to be recycled F.A.S parts)

check the actuator under the battery tray, make sure it releases. Sounds like your front dif is stuck engaged, easy way to tell is put the truck in 2wd grab the front driveshaft it should spin freely by hand. If it doesnt your front dif is engaged/somethings stuck.

just went through this with my sister trail blazer. Pulled the front drive shaft and still felt like the front end was engaged in 2wd.Turned out it was a stuck acuator on the axle assembly and a sensor on the t-case. Cost her parts and 80bucks labor. Same setup push button 2wd, 4 auto (which she keeps it in all the time), 4hi and 4 low.

Could also be the encoder motor. Theres a sensor in them that has a tendency to go bad

Yeah pulling the front driveshaft doesn't solve anything, still will do the same thing.
