Title: muffler options
Post by: michigan maniac on March 05, 2014, 04:06:24 AM
I'm looking into replacing the mufflers on my truck(7.4 vortec),  has true duals now, with no name mufflers, want a deccent rumble but not obnoxious when pulling a trailer under full load, kinda leaning towards borla, or flowmaster 50 series, anyone have and real suggestions?  I looked up sound clips on the tube, but most were crap and the kids reving the piss out of it

A lot of things affect the sound/ engine, pipe size, muffler placement and where it exits the vehicle.  Flo-master would be my pick tho.

I've always liked flowmaster, I had a 50 series on the burban and it sounded good, but I never really towed with it, and since I'm gonna be towing my pig of a trailer and Rockwell equipped k5 I don't wanna go deff under a load lol

Only a flow master ...can and does ...add horsepower to the cars traveling next to you , while they are with in ear shout of it  applaudd

hence speeding up traffic , and promoting drafting...hence saving fuel  ;D

Flowmasters would be my pick

flowmaster 70s would be nice and tame, a little quieter than the 50 series, but still sound good and have a little rumble, their page for street mufflers charts out how loud or quiet they are, the further left is loud and the far right is tame http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/?page_id=10995

most of us outgrew obnoxious pipes. I don't want to hear that p00, neither do my neighbors.

dual in dual out SINGLE flowmaster or v force. that engine will be happier going into one muffler and it will smooth the sound out.
true duals hurt low end power on stock vortecs. even the tbi engines run better coming into one. wether its through an H pipe or
using a dual/dual muffler so that your exhaust  flow can draft one side off the other.

as far as sound goes. tail pipes are what is going to tune your sound. bigger the pipe deeper the note. smaller pipe the sharper the crackle.

Yeah if I can fit a dual dual I'm gonna consider going that route, but since the truck already has true duals if its going to involve a lot of work I would rather just cut the mufflers out and weld new ones in,  but who knows maybe ill just redo the whole thing since I have a bender and everything at work
