Best front Axle

Hypothetically speakin, What front axle with driver diff would be best to throw under my 1990 ford f-250?  Want solid axle, not any IFS crap.  want to put 3.08-3.73 gearing in it so i can take the highway at reasonable RPM's.  Thanks in advance!

Your only real choice...............is to find a pre 1979 Ford f-250 dana 44 front axle, since it is driver side drop, and will be cheaper than..................................a Dana 60...........which is not worth the money unless you plan to really beat the hell out of your truck.

You should be able to find a Ford dana 44 for 200.00 or less.

And I would go with 3.73 gears........if you can.......because if you put larger tires on your truck your engine might loose alittle power, if your axle ratio hasent been changed.

A Ford high pinion 60 would be nice but they weigh alot and cost alot (about $1000). If you are not running over 38-40" tires they are kind of over kill. A Ford high pinion 44 would probably be fine, they don't weigh a ton and they are cheap ($150-$200).

lol i ran a dana 44 in my old bogger ran 42 tsl's with good tread on em and never broke it with 4.10 gear and open diff  go with the dana 44

Dumb question probably, but is it 4wd right now?  If so, a D60 out of a 87-97 F350 is a bolt in affair.  If you are making it 4wd, a D44 would probably be strong enough for mostly highway driving.  Rockwells are the baddest mofo's out there though, if you want/need the strength.

I know where you can get Newer HP60 for cheap. granted its the Ball joint unit bearing style, its still a 60. Oh and rockwells aint got on ZF's!!!!!
