I am getting ready to narrow a front axle and thought i would see if anyone had some good words of wisdom. The axle is a dana 70 open knukle i brought from rollover herb(thank you). well my certified eye ball and my tape measure say 2 differnt things and idont want an axle quite this wide,so here is my plan
1.narrow to a 67"wms from a 82" wms by cutting the knukle off, shorting the tube, press the knukle back on and set the castor and weld in place.
2. sit back, have a beer and figure out how i can get shaft out of the cv so i can have it shortened.

I would suggest shortening the long side to the same length as the short side (if the total width works for you).  This way you can run two short side axle shafts and not have to mess around with a custom axle.
My keyboard can go through more stuff than your keyboard.

is this a dually front axle?
if so you can change your hubs and narrow your wheel track by up to a foot.

i need to finish disassembling the axle to tell for sure if that would work, but i think i would need to narrow it another 5" to do that. the other problem i have is finding someone who deals with this cv shaft or figure out a u joint one that will work.

nope, that would be to easy. it is a really wide single wheel front axle. it came out of a '81 dodge power wagon front wheel drive bus. it is not your standered 1ton front end.

that would also depend on the driveshaft location wouldnt it??
i am going to use ford divorced t-case that is indexed down so the drive shaft is a minor issue at the momment.

I did not think about it, but maybe i should tell what the truck is that the axle is going under is. its a '79 jeep cheeroke 4-door body on a shortened '84 chevy short box frame with a 14bolt rear axle from a sububan with a 500cad for power. I have been looking online and i cant find out much out on this axle. the BOM is610003.

you can also put in custom 60 axle shafts or stock 60 shafts, moser engineering resplines
that axle should have drive flanges if you want to go 35 spline outers northwestfab.com makes 35 spline flanges

Thanks for all help. i got the knukle off tube and the tube shortend, just need to put it back on. i found out that the long side axle is 2 pieces with a splined pressfit coupler, so it looks like new shafts.
