ah the 1870 transmission component slipping code. Have seen many of those, if the fluid is not too burnt try a valve body with a shift kit, if that doenst work then tranny time. I have seen both scenarios if there are a lot of miles I would replace or rebuild tranny.

not much you can do for a 4l60 performance wise if the clutches are slipping... they'll only get worse.

i can do a remove/rebuild/install for $800, would be a TCI rebuild, they usually come with Raysbestos clutches and all the good stuff. i've used 3 of these kits and they have been GREAT quality, also a new trans pump parts.

Trans shops want $300+ for just labor to rebuild, let alone parts(bout $300~), and removal or install...

OR i can do it for $500 if you want to pull the trans and bring it to me...

but there not sliping it is the valve body the tcc solinoid inside the v-body. i have reasearched it and it seems that is what genrally goes bad and i dont feel it slipping at all and that rebuild i can get includes a 1 year 12k mile warranty + r&r

new solenoid kit is $80 + shipping... they are pretty easy to do if you feel like dropping the pan.. they un-clip from the wiring harness, flat head screwdriver will pull out the clips that hold in the solenoids, except the lockup which is 2 10mm bolts.

the solenoid is what shifts the valve, may as well replace the solenoids if ya replace the valve... ive seen them go bad and cause hard shifts, but it still shifts.

camok10

ok i was told the "solinoid" or valve stickis inside the bore due to wear and causes the tcc not to engage when comanded so it thinks its slipping but it only dose it when i get on it and let it shift with out liftin but if i lift between gears it dosent though the code, and i can consistantly do it when i dont lift  so may possibly weak v-body springs or maybe even a pluged filter

valve body is probably full of crud.. happens over time, friction material breaks down and makes it way through the filter.. Surprised its at 138k, mine went out in my 02blazer at 93kmiles. my buddys 97 s10 is at 190k and is still goin strong ==shrug

you would just have to drop the valve body, clean it out with parts cleaner, and resassemble. ATLEAST a 4 hour job dropping the V body.

camok10

my s10 got 135 and i just got the whole thing rebuilt/built
and ok so if im going to go through that i might as well put  a shift kit in it and how hard/what is required to do the valve body is it just pull pan filter unbolt clean install s-kit and reinstall or ??

drop the pan, pull filter out, unhook wiring harness, pull off shifter linkage, pull all bolts some are 8mm some are 10mm (short ones go in the center YES ORDER MATTERS) and keep track of the check balls, there are 8 of them, unlike TH350s which have only 4.

with the shift kit you will be changing the springs in the valvebody as well as the gasket, should also come with directions as to where to put the checkballs
