dana 60 is overkill for 38s... anything bigger than that is

i'd use a 10bolt over a 44, parts are DIME A DOZEN, keep the front unlocked.. you wont break much if anything...

i ran 42x20" tractor tires on a 44HD open, only broke one shaft.

ive never done the swap when when i had my 88 i looked into it vaguely. its not a direct bolt in, there is definatly some fabrication needed. its pretty easy to find help from people that has done this online.

NO, it is a leaf sprung axle, you would have to put coil mounts, etc. on it.  look for older bronco striaght axles, should be pretty close to bolt in, radius arm mounts, etc

If your looking for a Ford  Heavy Duty Dana 44, ya gotta find one in a pre 77 Ford F250 High Boy truck, cause Ford never offered a 3/4 ton bronco.

It was also offered thro 79, in a HP.  he has a ttb bronco, thats why i put the bronco axles in there

what i mean is, your bronco has coils and radius arms in the front, correct? this is a ford 44HD-



it has leaf mounts on it, not coil buckets and radius arm wedges/mounts

Strongest I've seen are clark 20 ton planetary axles.

Speaking for CHEVY HD Dana 44's..................they have the much larger external bolt on Spicer hubs, or full time drive flange. The only thing heavy duty about them is that the outer portion of the axle (locking hub's/ bearings/rotor hub housing) are larger than 1/2 ton. GM used the HD44 from early mid 60's till early 1977. In mid 1977 they switched the outer portion of the 3/4 ton front axles to the smaller 1/2 ton locking hub/bearing assembly. 

Funny thing is, the chevy Dana HD44 inner and outer axle shafts are the same as the 1/2 ton  dana 44 shafts, both 30 spline inner, and 19 spline outer, and U joint size is the same too

Ford used the HD 44 axle also, but all those I;ve seen had the large external bolt on Spicer/Ford hubs.
