ABS Problem on a 1998 GMC pick up

My buddy just bought a 1998 1/2 ton 4x4 GMC pick up. The ABS breaks kick on every time he applies the brakes. Any help would be appreciated.

Just unplug the module he won't have ABS but the regular breaks won't be effected

thats what i did and drove my truck for another 20,000 miles. no problems other than the brake light was on.

file the rust from under the sensor before installing the new sensor, have lots of problems with that concern. Hope that helps.

You cant do that on a 98 chevy 4x4!!! the front sensors are sealed within the bearing/hub assemblies.

i think he may be talking about where you bolt on the hub to the knuckle? so you get a good ground for the sensor?

Should be held on by a small bolt, at least they were on the 99 tahoes they take the same hub and bearing. The speed sensors are handed (left and right) and last check they were like 130 bucks from the dealer. Careful when removing them though as sometimes they pull apart.

MY 97 DOES THAT IF I AM IN TRAFIC AND BARLEY APPLIEING THE BRAKE FOR LONG PERIODS THEN  ILL TRY N STOP AND THE ABS WILL KICK ON...   BEEN DRIVEIN IT LIKE THAT FOR A YEAR NO PROBS JUST GOTTA BE CAREFULL :]

I dind't think it was a problem either, until I tried to stop behind some one in a hurry in my '96,  abs had been coming on when it wasnt suppose to, abs came on and I had to drive off the road to avoid piling into them!   At least pull the fuse if your not gonna fix right now, thats what I did until I got it repaired.

ABS sensor is costs a ton to fix. my dad had to do it on his 96 Chevy. It was like 400. the mechanic just unplugged the thing i guess.

i had the same problem. i just took the fuse out and ive been fine

might wanna check the hub to make sure its ok still. abs light on usually indicates a hub going bad. ive had about 20 cars come in  in the past few months with the same problem. abs light comes on or abs kicks in. wound up being a bad hub each time.
