Slowly but surly im making head way. I got my front axle finaly and got both axles debraked. To give you an idea how much wieght i lost on these axles by debraking, a drum wieghes in at 90lbs and the backing plates and shoes at 68lbs. it adds up to just over 600lbs in fat removed. I have also been working on building my new rims, i have one more rim to clean up so i can start welding in the new centers i made out of some old semi rims. I'll try to get some pics up in the next couple days. Trout

Thanks, I'm a machinist by trade and i started out not knowing jack 20 plus years ago. If you got a ? just ask, i'll try to answer it.
I do a lot of ? asking, research and photo studing on what others have done and if it works or not, and a lot of dootals on paper. i also make little ruff scale modles with bailing wire and cardboard to see if ideas will work. I do stuff like this to relax. Here is something to blow your mind,  http://s399.photobucket.com/albums/pp78/blazentrout/cover/  I built this about 10 years ago. My kids now take most of my time. I liked her to, she was from oklahoma and was 18 at the time. her first cover shot to. What sad is its sat in its trailer for 4 years now gathering dust. now on to some update pics. making 15x24 5ton rims. Total cost for the new centers $60 and some time.
What i started with

the 24.5 rims i cut down for the centers,

The center removed and cleaned up,

The rims with the centers tacked in place, 4" of back spacing,

Still need to sand blast and powder coat. until next time Trout

blazentrout

been working on it a little, my hiems

some brackets,

a couple of axles shots,

gunna go with a sbc?
nope, i have a cad 500 thats been hiding in the barn. it  has 493ft/lbs and 300hp at 3grand and it only about 50 /60lbs more than a small block.
That's what I'm talking about, my caddy 500 will be fed via propane.

I definetly need to get down your way to check this out, been getting on with mine, need 2 more 2.5 tons and extend the frame / body 12". I'm having my wife build the control arms ( she's a machinist also-20+ yrs), need to grab some pics and send them to you.

just let me know and i would like to see them. I would like to know how that would perform in the mud for the componets. i looked at that a while a go but i dont know what i want to do for fuel yet. the cad 472/500 are def low end  motors but they are a well built unit stock and have some umf.
