im wanna build a torque motor, i dont have a lot of money so i am trying to do the cheapest things.  so far is heads and cam, but heads are expensive.  is there anything i can do to my stockers to get more out of them and still be cheap??  plus whats a good cam??  ive heard of people going comp cams and having the lobes round out.  any help would be appreciated

Edlebrock Performer packages are respectable setups..

RV package is a good torque builder.. cam, intake, carb
350 opened up to 355 (.030 over) and add heads when $$ is available
you can build a nice little motor for less than $1K

These are matched systems, dyno'd.. no guessing.. and you can buy them a piece at a time
or the complete package.

Over the Edge Sharpening systems, cutlery, shear, scissor sharpening

It's all fun and games till someone gets knocked up.. down or out !

Go to a junk yard and get a set of 305 heads from a 305ho Camaro, Trans am, Firebird then add RV cam and dual plane intake with a small 4brl or a TPI or TBI setup what ever your budget will allow, even a Holley 500cfm 2brl mounted on a dual plane intake with an adaptor. Will produce all kinds of low end grunt all the way to 4500rpm. The more stroke the more torque...if you do this same setup on a 400sbc you will have a torque monster forsure!

right now i got a 350 with edelbrock performer intake, with and edelbrock 600cfm carb.  i have a 305 from a 1982 305, but u say the H.O. 305 is better ??  i can afford a cam, is the RV cam good enough??  or should i step it up a notch

chevystudz7105

if i were you i would step up more then a rv cam.  just not sure what to

Eroq

put a turbo on it! loll

good RV cam, dual plane intake, good carb, and good igntion will get ya some decent power...

theres SO much you can do to get higher numbers just $$$$

mr. goodwrench

Just remember not replacement for displacement. Want more torque try gearing down??!! Motor may help but low end grunt comes from a few different things that all come into play. All it takes is $$$$ Anyone correct me if I am wrong.

i allready planned on 5.13 gears.  what the plan is to pull my 30ft enclosed trailer with 2 sand rails in it.  mainly from davison to west branch.  and silver lake once in a while.

right now my combo is 350/built 700r4/208/4.10 gears/33"tires.  it has no balls.  and the only thing i can think is the motor is worn out.  i do have plans for a turbo but i would rather try the all motor/reliability first.  i was lookin to spend only 500 bucks for the motor.  northern auto has a "torker kit" for 300 bucks and comes with new pistons/rings/cam.  im not sure what i wanna do.   i rebuilt the motor 2 years ago and put new bearings/rings in but i want/need more.

Put a set of 96-00 Vortec heads from a 350 that came in trucks vans suvs etc. They are worth I have heard 30-40 hp over older factory heads. I run them on a sbc I have and they work great. Also w/ no mods they can run a 475 lift cam. I run the Comp Cams Magnum cam has 470 lift works with stock converter has good low end torque w/a nice sounding idle.

#14102187 is the heads you want they are 58cc heads and have 1.85" intake, and 1.5" exhaust valves. You probably have 76cc smog heads right now so the 305ho heads will bump your compression way up and the valves are about the same size. This combined with an RV cam will give you all kinds of grunt down low but this combo will fall flat on its face at about 4500rpm...combined with an overdrive trans this would suit your needs for towing. Make sure you install a big ass trans cooler for that 700r4.

suck squeeze bang blow...   upgrade any of those steps in your motor and you will get more out of it...

id say a set of 202 heads, a rv cam, maybe step up the intake so the 202's arnt starving, your carb should be good enough just adjust it right, put a good set of headers on it.. that would be a noticeable differnce.

best way to find the heads is right down the casting numbers and spend a day junkyard jumping.

betterbeaters

if you really want a monster torque motor buy a big block or spend the money and build a 383!

well im picking up 2.02/1.60 heads (not sure what the casting numbers are) and hooker headers for $180.  then get a cam kit from summit for $100.  so for $280 i got an allright motor.  i don't think i could find a big block with 50k miles for that price.  then i gotta go thru the headache of putting it in.  parts are prob cheaper for the small block.  maybe someday when my wallet gets fatter i will be able to step up to the big boy motor.  till then i will just make due with my briggs n stratton

might wanna have your carb re-tuned after you put headers and 202's on it, wont get any more power if you dont add the fuel.   .. what your doing i think you have a noticeable differnce. ;D
