I would say if you wanted to shift from 4 hi to 2wd you could do it at very slow speeds but stillnot a good idea and never shift from low to hi!

i have a 205 in my 77 f-250 from 2hi to 4hi you can shift while moving, not necessarily at 50 mph but under 20 youll be fine.  low gear is a totally different scenario, if you can even get it out of 4low while your truck is running its amazing, lol. half the time i need to lieterally shut my truck off for it to shift out.

If It Doesnt Have Mud On It, It's Just Another Truck!

For GM Np205s..........the early ones 69-early 1980's..........were not shift on the fly....but the last models early/mid 80's till 1991 were shift on the fly at low speeds................it had to do with SYNCHRONIZERS inside the transfer case............early models didnt have them.

Ford 205s I'm not sure of........Ford stopped using the 205 in 1979....so chances are, they didnt have the synchronizers like later model 205s did.

Dodge........I'd guess they switched over to synchronized 205 in the 80's as well. In 1980-93 Dodge only used 205 in heavy D250's.......and all D350's came standard with 205's.

Some times its nessissary to rock the truck back & forth to undo the gear bind on 205's..........try driving forward 10 feet...........shift into neutral.......or depress clutch while truck is still slowly moving...............then try shifting into or out of 4wd.
