my 98 z71 started making a weird noise in the rear. i just got the rear axle rebuilt about 5 months ago and everything inside is new. also have a new rear ujoint in the driveshaft. when i take off, it sounds like a bad ujoint, or like something is grinding. I pulled driveshaft and everything is fine. all ujoints are greased and tight. idk whatelse it could be. if it matter or not, it has 5inch lift with 35inch tires. thanks for the help

did you rebuild the rearend or did you have someone do it for you?  j/w if the pinion bearing got preloaded and if the gear got checked for where the pinion contacts it.. sounds like you might have a bad pinion bearing.

maybe jack up the back of the truck and get under it.. turn the driveshaft by hand.. narrow down weather the noise is coming from the ring and pinion area, or out by the tires.

did you have out bearings replace to. and is it a posi. it needs changed oil with adtive. then change oil again in about 500miles to make sure you don't have a lot of metal shavings in it. a=f ==np
