ok guys i bought this off of broncomudhead. he told me about it and he tried what he thought was wrong with it. but didnt work so i'm gonna ask you guys. ok it will start and run but if you let go of the key it will shut off. if i hold the key in the start post. it will stay running. then if i try to shift it it will shut off. so he was thinking ign so he changed it and that wasnt it. so i thought neutral switch. what do u all think. i know if i try to start it in nuetral i have to mess with the shift to get it to turn over. let me know thanks.

Eroq

sounds like 2 things.. neutral saftey switch(have to wiggle it in neutral to get it to start) , and ignition switch...

Crazymays77

so if i put a push button it should fix it? and bypass the switch

Eroq

i would replace the stock switch first...  autozone has them for like $10

Crazymays77

he replaced it this morning and it didnt work i think he took that one back out thou and put the old one back in

CRAZY MAN broncomudhead

NO LEFT NEW ONE IN AND WHAT IT DOES IS WHEN YOU START THE JEEP AND HOLD THE KEY ON IT WILL STAY RUNNNG AND IF YOU LET THE KEY GO OR PUT IT IN GEAR IT WILL SHUT OFF

ok guys i need help. i tried to hot wire it so the ignition wasnt a factor and that didnt work. its not the neutral switch. i do know that the shifter needs to be adjusted but i dont see how that would be the problem. anybody help me thanks

Somewhere you got a Bad ground in the run circuit your key positions are Ac-Stop-Run-Start. I have had a few cars do that in my life and it was always the ignition switch. However you changed the switch so I would start looking into the circuitry that is supposed to be on when that key is in the run position. Put a voltage meter on the power supply wire on your coil. Then have someone start it holding the key in the start position...then when they let it turn to the run position see if ya still got voltage.

If all else fails you could hot wire it. You will need two relays, toggle switch and a push button switch. Probably looking at 30 or 40 bucks for everything.

Crazymays77

nope i tried that. thats what i was saying before. i just didnt use a push button just stuck the wires together. but when i take the starter wire off(which would be on the push button) it dies......

Crazymays77

so i have been told it could be the starter or solenoid. what do you think

THAT MUDFIT GUY

i think its the solenoid because if your not getting full contact through the solenoid then it wont stay running  when youlet off the key your losing contact in teh solenoid  and cuttin power to the rest of the system

Bigdaddy

I had a 76 mercury comet that would only run when key was in start position, it was the ign computer box, might be the computer is bad on it ==idunno

THAT MUDFIT GUY

he already bypassed it by hotwiring it before the  switch

kevin replaced that part before i bought it. plus i bypassed it anyways. what about the coil resistor? it omhs out right but could be bad i think

Disturban

If you run a hot wire from the battery to the coil it still wont stay running?

Crazymays77

didnt try that yet i found a short in the box that is next to the battery. it has a wire from batt. then a bunch of fusable links from there. i wiggled them and tried to start it and there was nothing so i wired the starter to roll over and wiggled the wires again and it rolled over. so i'm going to cut them out and rewire it and see what happens
