so i have and engine squeal. i though maybe it was the ac compressor so i put a by pass on it. didnt fix it. well since then i have replaced the  water pump, alternator, idler pulley,  another ac bypass, and power steering pump. it sounds like its coming from the pass. side. i got a scope in there but i still couldnt find it. when you spray some wd 40 in to the pass side of the engine bay near the pulleys it stop squealing for like 30 minutes then you drive it and it starts again. its only when you give it gas. it doesnt do it at idle. any help would be apreciated. its driving me up the damn wall

Did you start with the Basics and try a new belt first?

when you had the belt off did you check any of the pulleys? I would do that. i know the 88 jeep i have the belt squeals i just have not looked into it yet. i have to get it to stay running when i try to put it in gear. when i get that done i will look into the squealing. my guess would be check the alt. the bearings might be bad and its making the belt slip.

rebelryder

i replaced the alternator so i dont think its that. i checked all of the other pulleys and all seem to be working correct. i talked to a couple guys off gl4x4 and they said they also did the bypass on their jeeps and they squeal when its cold. so we will see when it warms up if it stops or not

while the engine is running take a piece of chalk and put it on the inside of the belt and let the chalk go around the belt the squealing will go away

are you serious? does that really work? never heard that before. thats cool if it works.

KORNBREAD

the chalk is just a temp fix. you might get a few runs out of it before it starts again.  ive never even had luck with that trick.

change the belt my parents own a starter and alternator shop that is a common problem if it still does it and it is a serpintine belt check the idler pulley

rebelryder

ok as stated before replaced belt, idler pulley, ac bypass pulley, alternator. im thinking again that its the idler pully again even though its brand new. thinking maybe i tightened it to much or somethin and ruin the bearing.
