I was doing some googling and found a website that said you could replace the flywheel in a SBC without pulling the tranny by sliding the torque convertor back and using a slim wrench to pull the bolts. Anyone done it? Where did you get your slim and probably long wrench to do it?

I need to change out the one in my truck and I think it would be easier to do it that way, given I don't have a concrete floor to work on.

as long as your flywheel comes out in one piece  youll be good its alot easier to do it that way but with the last one i changed on my van it came out in 3 poeces that sucked  but a i used a long mac wrench LONG a screwdriver for turnin the flywheel and the starter bolt thing so it didnt slide to far it worksvery well

easier than that, get some long pieces of 3/8-16 threaded rod... cut them to bout 8" lengths, and weld a nut on the end...

thread them in just like the bolts and slide the trans as far back as you need... can probably even get an impact up in there if theres enough room...

i also suggest a flywheel turning tool if you got a few bucks to spare! makes a world of difference
