i plan on buying a camaro, newer than a 1993, to have something cool to drive around during summer but i want to put a better cam in it to get that loopy idle but the only thing is i dont know much about camshafts for a newer car.

What is a good king of camshaft?

how hard are they to install?

what will it do to the gas mileage, ive heard from a lot of people it makes it go way down and other say it dosent change much at all. I know it depends on what kind of cam you get, all i want is something to give it a nice sound.

Thanks for helping out guys.

if you have to ask then maybe you shouldn't tackle it yourself. if your buying a 93-97 with a LT1 you don't need any internal engine mods. cold air intake, headers and straight 3" exhaust will give you some extra ponies and those cars already have 275 HP stock.
"I just hate stupid people, i think they should have to wear signs that say "i'm stupid". that way you wouldn't rely on them would ya, you wouldn't ask em' anything" Bill Engvall

another thing to think about is the fact that with  Fuel injected cars you can only go so big before you will start running into problems with the computer, which will mean more money to have the computer reprogramed or get a custom chip.

LOBE SEPARATION ANGLE (LSA) is what gives a cam that loppy idle the lower the LSA the more loppy it sounds. For example a cam with a LSA of 112 will sound more loppy than a cam with an LSA of 114  Unfortunately LT1 and LS1 motors dont like these cams. These cams are an old school trick used in first gen small blocks to help scavenge the cylinders and dont work well on LT1 or LS1 motors, you will lose top end horse power! Your best bet for a good sound from a 4th gen is headers, high flow cat, 3" exhaust, GMMG chambered muffler system. GMMG Exhaust No choke points! By that I mean make sure you use a Y-Pipe with a true 3" outlet, not a 2 1/2"! This system sounds NASTY and will net ya a lot more horse power when combined with a CAI and Tuner program. LS1's and LT1's respond real real nice to these mods!

Now after you make these mods [FIRST] and you still want more power then a GM Performance Parts Hot cam is worth another 50 horse power using stock heads. All these mods together will net ya about 360-375 hp on a LS1 and with the right tires will put ya in the 12's!
