i have a 96 silverado that runs like  p00 and my cats are pluged i want to cut my cats out and just run straight pipe will it run ok???

BLAZIN SKIDDY

no it wont you have o2 sensors before and after the cat it wont run right

RIP_K52007

it will run... not the best... and you will sacrifice MPG... and have a service engine light on.
Your better off getting high flow aftermarket convertors, not that much more than stock replacements and you can get sound threw them.

RIP_K52007

yeah ur lookin at atleast 4mpg loss by loosing that post cat sensor the computer just goes into "W.T.F!" mode. haha.

evan your truck will run fine without the cats in it.  (this is brandon by the way if u didnt know) you will just have the service engine soon light on all the time.   jeff uhl cut his out of his 98 that he had and has no problems.  he also has them out of his 04 and no problems at all.  both trucks ran perfectly fine after and the gas mileage wasnt affected or was very little.  plus my 91 hasnt had cats on it sense the day i put my exhaust on which was almost 5 years ago and my truck runs perfectly fine and my gas mileage wasnt affected.

i talked to mike earlier tonight about it nad if you want  bring it over some time and ill cut a flap into the cat and knock all the insides out and ill weld it back up for you.   im pretty    sure your cats are easy to get to do this to them.   or if u dont want ot deal with your service engine soon light on  buy 2 of them  high flow cats mike was telling me about that are only like 55 a piece or something.

camok10

well since my 97 had them cut by a P.O. and i still got 17 mpg but had the code low catilys efficency all the time forever and ever and never wen into limp mode you just need to leave the post cat o2's to prevent limp mode

but you should really just get new cats imo

Either a high flow cat will work, or remove them and get one of the pluggable cheater sensors.  They always send a signal that the second O2 sensor is getting a good signal.  they are all over the internet for all kinds of different vehicles.

Your talking about an o2 simulator. Just buy some aftermarket cats...they flow so good now days it will not effect performance in anyway. Also I was reading on another site about the o2 simulator's and the Government is cracking down on people who are selling them! A car with no cat will put out the emissions of something like 50,000 cars running cats. I know a lot of people don't give a p00 but your kids might 50 years from now.

thye cut the cats open and broke all the insides out and i welded it back show for him tonight and the truck is still running like p00.   i went for a ride in it to see exactly what it is doing  and it feels and acts like its not getting enough fuel  after it warms up.   so im thinkin  either the fuel pump he put in not that long ago  is taking a p00 already  or he is having comptuer issues.    cuz  if i remember right  they changed plugs, cap, rotor, coil, iginition mod, and map sensor and that didnt do anything.   they are going ot check the fuel pressure tomorow and see what he does when it gets up to temp.

RIP_K52007

get some ohm specs on the coolant temp sensor... test that thing....   i give this about 5 minutes before someone quotes me and says "that cant be it" but its my ==2cents either way loll

Fuel Filter $26...Mine ran like crap a few months ago I could not get up to 55mph. New fuel filter solved the problem.

Yup thats what I was talking about.  Just couldnt come up with the word when I was typing.
I do agree for our own environment, new cats is the way to go.

I wouldnt take the government thing into consideration myself.  And I would like to know where you got your  numbers on the 50,000 cars thing.

It wasnt 50,000 cars it is 500,000 cars...here is the link. http://www.usdoj.gov/opa/pr/2007/July/07_enrd_490.html

I miss read what they stated...they sold 44,000 02 simulators and those cars will create the equivalent to the emissions produced by a half-million cars with fully operational emission control systems over their lifetimes.

Thats about the same as 10 cars runnning cats for every car without one.
