Future of GM?

   i think GM will pull threw, i think they could have done a better job without the government steping in and screwin up.. but hey.. thats apparently what they are for... i dont see the UAW as a bad thing... yes the higher up peeps are making more $ than they should, but thats true in any company/etc  that has gotten that big.My grandpa retired from GM, i wouldnt be where i am today if it wasnt for him, the UAW & GM. They wouldnt have had to lay so many people off in the first place if they wouldnt have hired so many.. but nope... there has to be a guy for every job, not one guy that can do 2 jobs.

I think they'll pull thru...But not till there forced to go thru chapter 11. I think Obama will force them. My Grandfather and Father both worked for GM. I grew up next to the old Fisher Body plant in Flint...Who remembers that plant?

Another thing about the UAW is positions in the factory. By that I mean I had a job at a UAW plant for a few weeks and when I first started I asked someone to give me a hand with something I was working on and he said (THATS NOT MY JOB) WTF well come to find out a UAW worker can only do the job they are assigned to do! I think if you work at a factory anything that needs to be done in that factory to get production out the door IS YOUR JOB!!!

Thats why I have a problem with the UAW and no longer work for a UAW plant because I told them exactly what I thought about that !

The UAW does nothing but take money from the working man and protects LAZY workers who dont want to do anything but show up to work and collect a pay check!!!

If you have an at will factory and know that if you are a slacker you will be replaced that will give people a little more incentive to work harder and have better quality products. If you cant get quality products out the door on time someone else will.

It's going to be interesting for sure I work for a company called Logistic Sevices Inc. (L.S.I) in flint and we warehouse parts for Truck & Bus in flint. And yes we are union as well (waisted money if you ask me) if they go down I loose my job just as quick. I work as close to G.M as you can without actually working there. 

I guess all in all we'll have to ride it out and see what the future holds.

why is everyone anti union? mind ya i work at delphi.... im not making big money and i have insurance. i understand GMs union guy are getting way better pay! they might have to get a $10 an hour pay cut like us.... but whats that when them executives get billions ya know? GM just needs to go bankrupt to get there poop in a group

Work ethics..

not my job mentality
job bank.. why is a whole dept paid when only 2 people work OT
15 minute breaks every 20 minutes
honestly.. in their day, unions were very helpful to the working majority..
they organized the workforce against a dictatorship style employer..
they gave a single working man the ability to even the playing field against a superior power..

The roles have reversed and the unions are now the dictatorship.
now a days.. the unions work for only 1 reason.. themselves! and their pocketbook.. the rank and file are just the weapon they use.

because the union in gm helps keep people who steal from GM ,cheat them outta hrs(Clocking a buddy in & out) & when they employee get caught stealing or whatever or come to work drunk /high  & gets fired, the union gets them back in... My folks worked for GM & retired & brother still works there, Ive had a union job that made parts for the big 3 & only thing they did for me is take my money for dues.... Unions were a great thing in the day, in todays world... they are for themselves... JMO

Delphi is a whole diffent animal than GM, If u work for Delphi, you are EARNING your pay...
my mom worked at steering gear/delphi & had her job moved to Bay City GM plant to retire when delphi took over...

I agree B D where I work I am uaw local 659 and thats all they do for me is take my money. There has been people that has gotten their jobs back after getting fired and even gotten back pay for the month or two it took them to get their job back.  But the way I see it if you go to work and do your job you don't need a union to keep your job.

HA HA I work for the UAW That statement is so True. At least 5 times a day I hear it ain't my Job. But I have heard Both of these statements from other nonunion Jobs I have had. These statement usually come from the older workers who have 30+ years and feel like the world owes them something. When I hired in the UAW the first thing I did was set up my 401k. Most of the old timers do not have a 401k. They could be in for a rude awaking. The second thing I did was go to college Because I know this job is not going to last forever.


I work on the assembly line. We build 70 cars an hour. I do work hard. But not as hard as some guy flipping burgers at A fast food joint making minimum wage. I see alot of people everyday not doing nothing. Both white collar nonunion and union workers. Every company I ever worked at had people that didn't seem to do . And still get a bigger pay check then me. Since I been at my plant they have eliminated alot of jobs. Sure I complained and bitched when they increased my work load. But deep down I knew the company was doing what it to do to survive. ( And I was still making pretty good money for the job I do). If management at my plant would start hiring some supervisors with some balls that would go through the steps of discipline and get rid of alot of dead weight. Instead I see supervisors in the parking lot at lunch time getting high with a line worker. Letting a pretty girl get away with not doing all day because he wants to F#%K her or is F#%king her.

The biggest thing I don't understand why did it take so long for the over paid Executives to figure out most of the Baby Boomers were going to retire at the same time. My plant has at least 75% of the plant that have enough time and the age to retire. This pension mess should have been straightened out a long time ago.

It's real easy to blame all The auto company's trouble on the UAW. But it's also the over paid Excuc's who let all the previous contracts get negotiated.

I'm union & I just Laugh when I read the crap that everyone is writing about the unions, people hate it when someone else makes more money then they do we all do but you can't get mad at that person or the UNION they are in, Everyone has this idea we all should make $7.40 an hour & be happy, I say FUC? that what kind of life style you going to have or provide with that income, I have done my line of work for many years Non Union & Union let me tell that I would never go back Non Union.. Lot of people  run their mouths about this topic but most have no clue!!
