I was out wheeling with some buddies when i hit a watery mud hole that was over my breather box. The jeep ran awesome up until then. Now she the engine light is on, bttery light comes and goes, oil light flickers, she knocks and shifts funny. I drained all the oil, ran fresh oil through it two times and got rid of 80% of the knock, but she still does.... ANY IDEAS PEOPLE? I need help bad this is my daily driver/family jeep as well. It has the 4.0 h/o and its a 1995 jeep xj.

just like  you did, change the  fluids.
motor,  trany ,

could  need a  good  drying out  and the  batery  light  might  go out.   or  check your  grounds.  water  in the  alt  mite  have  hurt it to. ==dunno

keep your fingers crossed but don't hold your breath.

did the water make it past the air filter?
was there water in the oil? if so how much and how long was it run before you changed the oil
is there water in the tranny?

KALI88

I haven't gotten to the tranny yet. But who knows. It was only driven for maybe 10 miles to where it is now. Nothin changed i the way in ran from the time I got it started out of the mud hole to the way it did when i got i home. When I drained the oil there was enough water in it to make it really really runny.

Might have to find a new temp d/d . . .

I hate to say it but he's right.
that 10 miles could have been enough to hurt the bearings for future reference anytime you get water in your oil change it there don't drive it anywhere till it's changed.

How was your oil press the last time you had it running ???

I'd start pulling caps and look for bad bearings you may get lucky and be able to just change out the bearings and be alright (not likely though)

KALI88

What caps are you all talking about? The knock is on the very top en of the motor and when i put new plugs and flushed the oil and retorqued the rods it took alot of it away. Th only thng we werent able to do was get the filter off but we thouht maybe by running the oil through it it would pull the water outofthe filter..... I got a ew filter and more oil soi willtry again tomarrow

Mudbuster

I was talking about rod and main caps you didn't say it was in the topend you just said "knock". you never did answer my ? as to weather or not the water went past the filter into the intake .

KALI88

yes i believe so... my air box and k&n filter was soaked and the pcv hose was milky too as was the oil cap and dipstick

ballistics-10

yea i had that happen to my old s-10 i pulled the plugs and cracked it over and watched a bunch of water come out... what it your oil pressure reading? i had to replace the oil pump after because the water got in there and it wouldnt have enough pressure..and caused my engine to knock. So check to see what your oil pressure is let it warm up to normal operating temp and see if the oil pressure drops..
aggravated assault is here!!!!

KALI88

i will try that tomarrow....Earlier the ligh wasnt on but before that it would flicker...I will try thattomarrow

KALI88

ok thanks I will check that tomarrow.....Anything else you can think of?

ballistics-10

check the oil, if it is still not looking right, u might have blown the head gasket.

I'll wait till i change the filter and flush it some more. I want to drain the new oil i put in and leave the plug and the oilfilter off and pour a bunch of oil in my valve cover and let in all just run through the motor... see if that will catch some more oil.

This will not get the water out.  You will be wasting money in oil... thats it.

how do i check te pressure? my jeep only has a light

pick up a mechanical oil pressure gauge, and hook it to where the sender is. passenger side of the block, bulb lookin thing that has one wire coming off of it and is right next to the oil filter

the push rods?

they are talking about the connecting rods for the pistons, and the main bearings on the crank. if you lost oil pressure or whatever, there is a good chance you wiped the bearings and/or could spin a bearing while its running. either one = no good. take some advise- if your gonna cross water, dont be going so fast that it comes up over the hood, etc. invest in a snorkel, or dont go swimmin in your jeep
