Howdy,
I just bought 1979 Ford F150 Custom 4x4 for $600. It has a 351M in it and this baby is running good. Just needs some carb, body, wiring, and a brake job.
I want to do a rear disc brake conversion on it. A guy told me that it is better than drums due to the mud getting in the drums and eating the brakes faster. He told me I could use chevy calipers (blazer), chevy mounting brackets (blazer). Could I do this or what? How do you do this conversion?

what rear axle is in it? need to know that first. look on here http://www.blackbirdscustomtrucks.com/index8.html they sell complete rear brake kits and there not that expensive. no guess work just bolt it on and go
"I just hate stupid people, i think they should have to wear signs that say "i'm stupid". that way you wouldn't rely on them would ya, you wouldn't ask em' anything" Bill Engvall

I think it's a 9in rear end...whatever they had on it when they made the thing.

i would almost guarantee that is a ford 9...snap some pics of the differential and stuff, we'll see what we can find out for ya! also, you can look on the door jam and there will be a spot that gives a code for the axles. might be on the door, not sure. anyways, you can run that code and it will tell you what it had when it was stock.

If It Doesnt Have Mud On It, It's Just Another Truck!

you could use the famous Lincoln Versailles rearend, it's a ford nine inch as well. But I don't think they have the big bearings in them that the old trucks had. You would loose some strength, but not much. I really don't feel it will be worth the effort, front brakes do almost all the work. Put some slotted or cross drilled rotors and high performance pads on the front first and go from there.

I wouldn't worry to much about it I'm not even running rear brakes their capped off at the portioning valve. just need to have it in 4x4 to stop

hm, it would be really dangerous though without rear brakes, lol. I don't fell like plowing into someone and crushing them.
