ive got an 03 gmc. lifting it 6 in next week. will it hurt anything to not buy a programmer>

wrong forum, but I don't think it will hurt a thing.  Maybe rear driveshaft length and  Speedo will be off if you change tires though

I cant see why you would need a programmer for a lift. 

If you go with larger tires, you may want to program it to correct the speed-o-meter.
