Food for thought

WORTH SENDING AROUND,  SINCE THEY ARE IN TROUBLE NOW.

GM, Ford, & Chrysler

INTERESTING....maybe the country should consider bailing them out to some degree

Nothing needs to be said... Ford, Chrysler and GM's contributions after 9/11

An interesting commentary...You might find this of interest:

CNN Headline News did a short news listing regarding Ford and GM's contributions to the relief and recovery efforts in  New York and  Washington .

The findings are as follows.....

1. Ford  - $10 million to American Red Cross matching employee contributions of the same number plus 10 Excursions to NY Fire Dept.  The company also offered ER response team services and office space to displaced government employees.

2. GM  - $10 million to American Red Cross matching employee contributions of the same number and a fleet of Vans, SUV's, and Trucks.

3. Daimler Chrysler  -  $10 million to support of the children and victims of the Sept. 11 attack.

4. Harley Davidson motorcycles  - $1 million and 30 new motorcycles to the  New York Police Dept.

5. Volkswagen  -  Employees and management created a Sept 11 Foundation, funded initial with $2 million, for the assistance of the children and victims of the WTC.

6. Hyundai  - $300,000 to the American Red Cross.

7. Audi  - see VW

8. BMW - Nothing.

9. Daewoo - Nothing.

10 Fiat - Nothing..

11 Honda - Nothing despite boasting of second best sales month ever in August 2001

12 Isuzu - Nothing.

13 Mitsubishi - Nothing.

14 Nissan - Nothing.

15 Porsche - Nothing. Press release with condolences via the Porsche website.

16 Subaru - Nothing.

17 Suzuki - Nothing.

18  Toyota - Nothing despite claims of high sales in July and August 2001. Condolences posted on the website

Whenever the time may be for you to purchase a new vehicle, keep this information in mind.  You might want to give more consideration to a car manufactured by an American-owned and / or American based company.    Apart from Hyundai and Volkswagen, the foreign car companies  contributed nothing at all to the citizens of the United States ... It's OK  for these companies to take money out of this country, but it is apparently  not acceptable to return some in a time of crisis.    I believe we should not  forget things like this.  Say thank you in a way that gets their attention..

even if GM Ford and dodge are made in another country.. profits (whatever they may be) still go to a American company. Thats why i'll always buy a=f .

(even tho it dont count used.. profits go to previous owner lol)

i still think no company should be bailed out by taxpayers.. theres alot of other ways it could have been handled. i'll stop there before i get in trouble.

I have to disagree. Granted, the companies could have been run more efficiently BUT even if they were, it wouldn't have changed anything. The economy crumbled around them NOT because of them. If no one's got jobs, the first thing they don't buy is new cars. So no matter what they would have done, if there's no one working to buy the cars it doesn't metter how efficient the company is. Slippery slope, then the government says "You have to cut costs or we're going to let you go under." What does cut costs stand for, LAYOFFS. The Big 3 are getting a bad wrap for something that never would have happened had the economy stayed on track. They supported (directly and indirectly) more people in this country than any other industry. If there ever was an industry to be saved, they're it! Bottom line.

I see what your saying, i agree with that also.. but there is alot of things the auto industry could have done BEFORE being bailed out.. just seems like they took the easy way out, just so none of the higher up's had to take a pay cut.. like them guys would miss a million or two a year.. lol.

The problems with the economy definetly are not because of the auto industry, not saying they had nothing to do with it, but i think the biggest problem with the economy is credit.. not even personal credit... im talking about the countrys credit, with other countrys, we are in a hole right now thats going to take ALOT of taxes to get back out of, and the hole is getting deeper every day. Not to mention whenever they print more money, to pay off debt.. it makes every dollar out there worth less than before, because theres more out there now.

hope im not pointing out the obvoius.. but maybe someone will read this that didnt think of it in that way. Much like i did reading what you had to say. ;D

Generous offers by American companies there is no doubt..
however..

They (the donating companies) got face time and substantial sympathetic value from those donations..
not to mention those donations ( including the hours of paperwork and delivery fees amoung others) are a tax deduction !!

Agreed that consideration should be given on your next purchase.. but, these companies reapt substantial benefits from there
generosity also, I am sure that they were as much a  "Buisness move"  as it was a sympethetic geture.
