I have a 96' Dodge Ram 1500 Ram Sport stock with 33's on now. I have 35's I need to get on but am debating what kind of a lift is the CHEAPEST AND STILL SAFE way to go.

I was told a body lift  via any of these options is good:

hockey pucks on body mounts
2 front larger stronger coil springs
2 front coil spacers

Can't afford much and my old tires about to give, wondering what all is involved with the above options and if there's anything else cheap, but that will do it and if anyone has put a lift on , themselves, before? Thanks

3" body lift might give you enough clearance...I cant say for sure. A body lift is not hard but buy a kit because there is more to it then just hockey pucks, they have the brackets for your bumpers, brake line extensions, shift linkage extension ect ect ect.

I would say body lift, lift blocks in the rear and coil spring spacers for the front... i would guess about 400 bucks at the most for all that.... if u bought a complete body lift kit....

Okay first off, something that is designed to do something else (i.e. HOCKEY PUCKS) should be a definite red flag. As stated, you need more than just the spacers. The MI law requires the body lift blocks to be ONE PIECE DESIGN and NOT TO EXCEED 3".

So buy a body lift, that comes with other brackets that will do it right; and search for "Top Gunz Customs" Front coil spacer and rear add a leaf. Gives you 3" front and 2" rear (levels the truck while lifting it) and that should be plenty.

Mac Remember Dodge trucks of this year are already equipped with lift blocks from the factory; and in Legal terms, double stacking suspension blocks are ILLEGAL, as they must be a one piece design not taller than 4" total. This is why I mentioned the add a leaf kit.

Hope this helps you out!

Yeah i know, i meant bigger lift blocks.... cuz some are like 1" or 2" blocks.....I meant go to a 3" or a 4"

hockey pucks are good...for a wheeler only other wise you get alot of body roll when turning and they arnt ment to have so much weight on em...go with solid mounts as stated one piece you can get one for around 300 bucks for a full kit or get longer front coils and add a leafs or find 3/4 ton front coils and rear springs    theres your lift...my dad has a stock 2002 dodge 3/4 with 34's and they dont rub and could fit 35's also same body style its a late 2001

i have a 1997 dodge ram sport and i have installed a 5.5inch bds lift..it was 700 bucks total and tht included everything it will clear 3's easy...im not sue how much you have to work with but i might be able to get my hands on a 3 inch rancho minus shocks if interested....it should clear 3's with tht...but remember these ae just the sprt packages not the off road packages they didnt introduce the sport off road untill later on so they have no factory lift
if ya cant dodge it, then ram it

Thanks for the replies. Sorry I haven't been on in a couple mos. I ended up getting a 2.5" front coil spacers for about $70 from ebay plus $10 or so shipping.   I do have that extra block in the back so it worked out fine and my 35's are now on. I'll have to post some pics when I can get my internet running again at home.

I just can't turn the steering wheel all the way or it rubs, but that's no biggie.

Whats it rub on? Sawz-all works wonders, so does a sledge hammer - sometimes just puttin a little ding in a fenderwell does the trick.. You can trim the fenders and put some fender flares on there too  ;D
