What are you running for motor that you need a 3000 RPM stall converter?

What do you mean? Do you think it is too big? That is just a baby converter. All the real runners are way taller than that.

I just have no idea what motor he has in it.  Hearing he wanted to put a 3000 rpm coverter in it, I would assume he has at least a little work done to it, no?

Ideally, you want as low of an rpm converter as the motor will work with.  You want the wheels to spin at as of an low of an rpm as possible.

In need of a yank strap?  PM me... I have 'em!

Big converters are only needed with big cams where the engine doesn't make power till up high in the rpms.

Well converters depend on alot of variables. Gearing, motor, application. If you want to do anything but run wide open, then a big stall isn't for you. I know some of the baddest rucks around here are runnin 4500 +. When you see some guys launch and the mud just flies of there tires, like a dog shakin when it gets wet, how do you think they get all that instant wheel speed. My favorite part of my truck, Flash Stall. Of course there are some pretty heavy down sides, ALOT OF HEAT in the tranny, Broken parts, and basically when ur in anything thick you gotta lock up your converter to go anywhere at all, which means wide open and intsant wheel speed, if nothin breaks.lol
Where's the BIG hole?

I agree 100%.

But it all comes down to your motor and where you start to produce power.  If your motor runs out at 4500, a 3000 stall is a little high in my opinion.  Those numbers were just tossed out for discussion.  Well unless you have a real narrowed power band like 3000 to 4500.

the stall on the converter is variable anyways, if you put a 3000 stall on a 250hp engine it will lock in 2800-3000rpm if you put the same converter on a 500hp motor it wont lock up til 3500-4000rpm.

Im not much for automatics but I'd think a high stall in a bogger would be a good thing, get the rpm's up there before it trys to spin the tires ==dunno  my trucks are all wrap it up n dump the clutch :P

406 Small Block, Its got some work to it but nothin to crazy yet, 3000 will drop it in a pretty good spot in the powerband

my motor makes power 4500 and up (I have dyno papers to show it) and I run a 3200  its a little dogish down low but work great and I dont have stupid heat in the trans from running in the converter driving it around before I jump in it.
