Well, for those of you who don't know, Brutus' clutch slave cylinder or master cylinder crapped out on me last weekend. So, I decided to let him sit for a while and picked up a new truck to drive back and forth to work.

1986 Ford F-250
6.9L Diesel
C6 Automatic
2WD
Extended Cab
Long Box
144,000 miles
Power Windows
Power Locks
A/C

I bought it off the second owner. He picked it up from the original owner back in March. Was an old man's farm truck and it shows. All maintenance was done at the Ford dealer he got the truck from. He replaced the glow plug controller, glow plugs, fuel return lines, alternator, etc. When I got it it needed a DS radius arm bushing and the leaf spring and hanger replaced on the DS rear. Other than that the thing runs and drives like a champ. Oh, did I mention, the tank I ran through last week averaged out to 20 MPG!!! And that's with a 23 year old truck with no overdrive.

Eventually, I'd like to replace the leaf springs with one ton units (when I fix the hanger), do the body work, retrofit and recharge the A/C and maybe convert it to 4WD. I don't know about the last one. We'll see if I can pick up a cheap parts truck to do the swap with.

I've already replaced the radius arm bushing on the DS (I'll do the PS when it's warmer, nothing wrong with it now I just figure I oughta do them both at the same interval), pulled out the little bitty 650 batteries that were in it for some 850's I had already, did an oil change along with a tranny filter change.

And, here's the pics.

And I still carry Maggie's tags with me.

First order of business is replacing the leaf spring shackle and leaf spring on the DS rear. That's why it sits high in the ass end on the one side.

Just installed a manual glowplug switch today. Give me the option of another burn on the GP's since the factory 10 seconds isn't working in this frigid weather. Maybe this Spring I'll actually replace the ones that aren't working! loll

I worked on the old "Turd" yesterday. Got the leaf spring on the driver's side replaced. Had it all done and started it up and saw a huge stream of diesel fuel coming from inside the tire. Turns out when I torched off the rivits I melted a hole in the return line. Quick trip to the hardware store, 1/4" barb, 2 hoseclamps and a little heat to soften the plastic and I was back on the road. Truck sits pretty much level now. No more pimp lean to one side. Picked up a set of fifth wheel/ goose neck rails I'm gonna work on putting on this morning. Pictures to come.
