DOH!!

DOH!! (as Homer would say)

On vacation this week, been goin out every afternoon early.. settin till I can't see.. well, I'm up in my tree 2 days ago.. couple of turkeys come in so I watch um for a bit.. still got this head cold and the crap runs down my throat.. don't wanna scare off the turkeys (or anything else) so I try and stifle the cough.. !  sends me into a coughin fit that damn near knocks me outta the tree... of course I watch the buck skirt way around me about an hour later.  DOH!
So last night I move (cause everything within 250 yrd knows where the night befores stand is) up a shag bark oak (noisiest dam tree to go up w/a climber) so anyhow.. did some light rattilin that pulled in a spike but he was on the wrong side of the tree and headin away.. thought hmmm..
so I tinkled the horns ever so lightly tryin to get his couriosity.. BOOM! gone like a shot from a gun...   DOH!!!
right at dark I go to get down and a doe and 2 kids come into the creek for a drink.. no shot yet but they're 30 yds out.. so I get set and sure enough here they come... mama first, so I drew up.. I'll be damned if I can see her.. she's right there..but her coat was so dark I couldn't see her and on she goes, baby's in tow.. could'nt take the shot for fear of wounding.. double damit DOH!!

Bummer! That's the way it goes though! Worse yet is when you scare away something that you had no idea was there...usually a buck that came in quiet as can be! Better luck next time!
