i did a sas on my 92 chevy. dana 44 front. everything was just fine on it before. the last time i had used the 4x4 it ran just fine and never had any issues with it... and that was maybe 2 months ago... now all of a sudden when i put it in 4 the front end starts to chatter and studder and it gets worse the faster i go and the harder i press on the gas.... but it doesnt do it when the tcase is in 2 and the hubs are still locked in.... could it be cuz the chain in the tcase is loose??? cuz it takes a second to kick back into 2 when goin from 4.... this has a 241 drivers drop case... any ideas would be greatly appreciated! never had this happen before on any vehicle, even my dad dont know  GotMud?

but it doesnt do it when the tcase is in 2 wheel, even tho all the joints and driveshaft are still spinning

mine acted like that for a while, ended up being a ujoint on mine man, the clip broke and the bearing cup came out just enough for there to be noise when there was torque on it but not when it was just free spinning

i was almost thinkin that it might have gone dry on me... i put non greaseables in there for strength... and the last time i ran the 4x4 it was cold out and it was mostly playin around in the puddles. and just the other day i had the pinion joint on the rear axle go when i was driving down the road(almost like one of the caps came off of it cuz the joint wasnt broken) and one of those caps were completely dry...

MR NASTY

Check all your fluids front axle and t case?  Maybe the needle bearings on the inside of the spindle.

i beleive i found out what the problem was... went out today and layed in the snow bank and started doin a shakedown on the whole front end. got to the driveshaft and notice the flange that bolts the ds to the tcase was loose.... i tuned it a lil bit and noticed that there were 2 consecutive bolts missing  ==pissed

well i got 2 more bolts and tightened em all back in, topped off the diff fluid, and it wasnt even that low to begin with, and retightened the yoke girdle bolts.... still had a faint studder that seemed to go away as i used it.... but then as soon as i got back onto pavement and kicked it back into 2 wheel with the hubs locked in it didnt seem right, it wasnt as smooth as it normally was and wouldnt go away till i unlocked the hubs

ive never felt a ujoint do that before.... ive had one burn out on the back axle while i was going down the road and never felt anything like that... but it is at a fairly steep angle for any driveshaft i guess

betterbeaters

ring and pinion are bad? spider gears bad? bearings in the axle are bad?sounds like you need to rip the front end apart and see what it looks like or keep running till it goes boom and spend more money fixing it.....

i know when i rotate the driveshaft by hand the ring and pinion is pretty loose... but i dont understand why all of a sudden it had gone bad... cuz ive gone mud boggin, to silver lake, just rollin around in the yard all in 4 wheel and it has never done that before... and NOW all of a sudden it does

MR NASTY

Breakage doesn't have no rhyme or reason to it.  I agree all we can do is guess where is you can pull it apart and see. Vibrating that bad should make the problem pretty obvious. Or wait and it will present itself at the most inconvenient time.

I have broke so much and never seen it coming thats how it works I would really pull your front apart and look it over before it breaks when you have to have it!
