working on a 97 suburban 5.7 vortec. fuel pump when out so i dropped the tank (which was full by the way) and replaced the pump. the pump that was in there was put in 4 months ago (not by me). anyways i put the new pump in and fired it up. it idled for about a half hour and then quit. truck dont start and cant hear pump run when i put the key to ON position. i jumped the relay and it still didnt turn on. when i removed the old pump, it had no continuity. the one i put in it had 0 ohms resistance. i dropped the tank today and pulled the new pump back out and it now has about 1.5 ohms resistance. the 2 wire harness that plugs into the pump has 11-15 volts when the key gets turned to ON position. Im not sure where to go from here or where/what to test. Im thinking there might be something burning these pumps out. Thanks, ROCK

PS i took the old pump back to parts plus since it was still under warrenty. they gave me a different one for free because they quit selling the first one cuz it had problems all the time according to them. thanks.

old school truck dude

If you didnt change the filter, it would sure be a good idea. If its even just partially clogged, it will make the pump work extra hard to push the fuel through and it will fail prematurely.  ;D
