10 bolts are a slightly stronger setup, but it wont matter unless you get a u joint strong enough to hold up longer than a shaft.  10 bolts ran more recent in the chevy's, which in my opinion makes them easier to find.  I'm putting in my 3rd set (because I found its cheaper to change axles than gears)  Its an 8 lug, but everything inbetween the caliper brakets is the same.  I've only broke a u-joint, and had I just replaced it, I would have been fine. one simple rule will keep you out of trouble in any axle: dont stomp on it with the wheels cranked, get the tires turning, then turn the wheel.

i ran dana 44 fronts and corp 10 bolt with tires from 33s to 44s the 10 bolt i broke it alot and the 44 i did till i modifided the axle a little to put full clips on the u-joint caps big difference the problem i found is the c clips dont hold up and you end up spiting a cap and good night axle a dana 60 can break to but a 44 is a lot lighter id like to have a 44 for the wieght savings but 44" trator tires are a bit much for them ;D

i have a 10 bolt front with 44s and it holds up just fine for me i only average 1 or 2 axels a year last year i never broke an axel so i like the 10 bolt...just dont buy cheap u-joints and use comon sence when wheelin dont come up on hard pack with your foot stuck in it
