can i tske the  gm radiator and turn it on end with the filler neck on top will it work like this  its a big aluminum one out of a deisel truck just a thought i had to save space  what ya guys think ???

buddman (AKA Mick)

The filler neck has to be the highest part of the cooling system in order to bleed all the air out, won't the tank be  higher than the cap????   Just a thought

hmmm if i cut the cap part of then put a rubber hose then the cap part on that it would be higher and make it easier to fill??

??? i dont know... u might have probs with air pockets, is this going in the motor compartment or in the rear of the rig ???
If in the rear u might want to put a air bleeder up front on your water line... I welded a petcaock bleeder on mine so that i could bleed the air out of it.
also dont know if you will be able to fill it all the way if it is sideways like that.

marshall

they make a waterneck with a filler cap, if that helps

dude you can do it like that cheap but it might not work right (air) but if you have it already give it a try and put a good tem/oil gauge in the engine compartment(like the racers do) and then your norm in the dash just get nice ones(acurate) and what about some of your jalopy pics, :) I wanna see! (and dont mean to get at you) but it is a ratrod, jalopy, hotrod, whatever you wanta call it. hey got it running yet, well what are you waiting on!  :)

Radiator dont care what way its lays in there.. Can you pull a hose off and get it most the way full through there? Also they have the cheap thing for the heater hose flush, put a garden hose on there and crack a hose loose at the highest point to bleed off the air while fillin it up. Oh yeah, and somewhere I saw a rad cap that makes an L  shape especially for rads on their side but I have no idea where it was...  ;D

as long as there is airflow thru it, shouldnt matter how its mounted. if you use electric fans, make sure to use a shroud!

this is where im startin need some ideas or  ==kp of you guys set ups need help with some ideas on the best way to build a shroud  there isnt any sides going on the bed and i dont want it to pack full of mud

the only thing with alum rads are  the tubes in them are bigger. so if you hang it so it is down flow rad that means the coolent does not stay long enough to cool down.  that is way all cars with alum rad are cross flow.  ==dv

ProGrade

finally did mine, its on a 30 degree angle and I have the air blowing from back to front so it sucks from inside the shroud where it should stay clean.

The basic idea is to make it so the air gets pulled through by the fan. If you stick a box fan in a living room window thats wide open it dont pull much cool air from outside, however if you shut the window down on the top of the fan and put cardboard around the sides it pulls the cooler outside air much better. Make it like a window air conditioner with the accordion things to fill the gaps.

The fans you have in that pic have shrouds built on them, looks like to me. The shroud itself cannot be up next to the end of the fan blades and be as thick as the fan, it MUST be only HALF as thick as the blades or it will NOT move air, it will have no way to dump. Ever notice how all factory fans hang out of the shroud part way..?

thanks guys  i made a housing/shroud   kinda thing that should work pretty good  i hope anyway   sam got some more  S/S  material to ,make some louvers for the discharge side  and my cousin that is a electrician can bend up some conduit to hook the lines up   its gettin closer and i cant wait to test it out  see what needs changed or fixed   and beat the snott out off it
