I am in the process of taking my 85 chevy down to the frame, Im preparing for silver lake on the 4th of july. The box and cab need some rust spots fixed so that it doesnt twist when i hit anything so thats where im at with it, My question for all you is, besides putting a 3inch body lift on it before its all done, is there anything that is easier to do and modify that i should do while i have the box and cab off?

Fuel lines, brake lines, body bushings, any engine work, box the frame in, wow its all there when you pull the body - fix everything you can while its off! ==wgm

boxing the frame is a good idea for the dunes lol. But if you plan to mud bog too its that much more area for mud to get into and sit and rot the frame.

Yup! If youre gonna go through the trouble of boxin it in, may as well seal it up completely and re-do the crossmember mounts and all that otherwise a couple 2-3 yrs and its all rusted out

Yup, thats a good one there, didnt think of that, they are made of thin stuff.. Could also raise them a bit..  ;D

I think i may do a 3" body lift but a buddy told me that 3" is almost to much and its better to do a 2"... any thoughts on that?

old school truck dude

3" is pretty much standard, youll be ok with that

Pull the steering box off and check for cracks around bolt holes on frame, repair as needed.

Actually I would drill holes in the bottom that way water could escape, if money was no object I would sand blast it all and have the whole frame E Coated, E Coat gets into every crevice and would stop any rusting issues.

PS: X2 on where the steering box mounts to the frame, they have kits to beef this issue up so your frame wont crack there, I would get one and install it while you have easy access!
