I have a friend with a 99 tahoe.  They are having problems with it starting.  Sometimes it starts right up and sometimes it starts up and then shuts off.  It has good fuel pressure ,fresh tune up, new egr.  Any ideas?  I thought maybe it had something to do with the vats system.  Thanks HoPpeR

I am not sure, usally they replace with factory parts, but this problem started way before the tune up.

Does it have any codes in it?

millser

ok thise sounds dum but give it a try use the key on the drivers door and lock and un lock it 1 or 2 times it resets the secertiy mode people should do this at lest once a month if you use them key pads to lock your car or trucks all the time

if its a vortec "good" fuel pressure may not be enough. needs to be 60lbs or above. at 50 psi and below it will long crank, start and stall. and generally be an
sob on cold startup

starts, runs for a few seconds, then shuts down, sounds like vats...

Distributor was just changed along with plugs and wires.  It did have a egr code but that also was just replaced.  When it starts it fires right up the way its suppose too and even when it acts up it fires right up and runs for a second and shuts off.   ???  I do believe the security light may be on also.
