I have a 1 ton 79 k30 with d60 front and cab and chassis 14 bolt 10.5" dually rear end.. the narrow one.  I am doing a SAS with the front d60 and was hoping to use the rear too.  anyone ever utilized these narrow rear ends in a 88+ chevy?  To me theres no way the spring perches can be moved over to make this rear axle fit because of the inside drum.  any help would be appreciated.

you'll need a standard dually rear end.. i put a stake truck rear end under my 84 chevy 2wd... had to remove drums and move the perches out 1.5" on each side.. which is ok cuz im going with disc brakes...

ahhh ok i seen it said 88+

jaredw

Yeah I am taking the axles from the 79 putting them under my 1990 ifs chevy. Erog was your rear end a standard dually or a cab and chassis dually.

I was browsing around on Pirate4x4. Since my only problem was the spring perches not fitting because of the drum backing flange, Can I just cut that off and convert to disc brakes?

Cool well that's my plan. If anyone wants this cab and chasis dually 14 bolt I will trade it within the next couple weeks for a srw but otherwise I'm just converting to disc and moving the perches out

what ya duin with the rest of the truck  ???  i have  a srw 14 ff   you mite want toi do some measurin before ya start cutting   seems like the difference is 2 1/2 or 3 inches  and isnt a 88 up trucks springs wider then a 87 or older??  i mean the width on the mounting points not the spring itself

Theres a difference allright. Theres a difference between a TON truck and a DUALLY. And then, theres a difference between a 73-87 and a 88-98. The old truck is skinnier in the back, and so is the TON truck. Big Frank is tellin ya right. ;D
thats right  wasent shure on the dimensions but its diff  thanks old school

BigFrank

i need a chassis to start a tow rig build   the rat phucker is almost done  and my 1/2 ton wont pull abig enough trailer to get it to a bog for testing

jaredw

Yes the perches on my stock 1990 axle are wider than the ones from this cab and chassis. So wide that they fall ouside of the drum backing flanges on the 14 bolt. The differences from the wheel mating surface from this dually and a srw axle come from the drums. They are dually drums on a single axle housing. I got all this info from the 14 bolt bible from pirate 4x4. I could be mistaken though.

As far as the rest of the truck goes I am using the axles(hopefully the rear or trading it) the front is a d60 kingpin for my sas swap. I got a turbo 400 trans with a case that's been weled up and a running 350 I will probably swap into my truck at a later date. I have a 208 tcase i m probably not using though. The cab and frame are shot.

Actually the front of the frame is solid and straight.. its behind the cab that gets iffy

BigFrank

rusty or bent and broke or what  was it a dumper box ??

jaredw

Its got a flatbed on it. Someone peiced in a new section of frame behind the leaf spring perch and put some homemade shackles on. Also its about halfway boxed in with some of the worst welds ever

jaredw

The rear would definetly be fixable with another frame to section in. This rear end I have might be better for you if you are doing a tow rig. Are you interested in trading your singe tire 14 ff?
